I had the idea of making a T-shirt company online, but need some advice. I have about 5 basic designs though I don't really know if they would sell... I need help with he following:
-Start up fees
-Printing
-Advertising
-Sales
-How.many designs would.be needed?

Help would.really be appreciated.

Thanks

Try work at Maccas. This is not an instant Gen Y cash industry where you can make quick cash. It will require loads of work. I have very talented designers printing all the time and some times they dont sell at all.

I am not telling you to give up on your dreams but this business requires stubborn determination, cash and lots of antacid from stress. Unless you have stumbled on the next smiley face design, you will need to come up with something remarkable.

Hi,

Mabuzi is right . It is hard work and unless you have a lot of friends and family willing to buy. Then it is already a hard thing to get into.
1)How are you going to get your designs on t shirts?
2)Do you have the bucks to get going?
3)Will just 5 designs on a website sell?

Just a few things to think about. But don't get put off if you want to go for it .

Just my two cents worth.

I know.everyone thinks gen y are all fools who think they can get money fast by doing nothing. Well im different to.the norm. I already have a job at an IGA, so I am able.to.fund the.start up.of the project... I have high hopes for my future nd have the.determination and effort.required to run a business online. I was.planning on probably using a company such as Cafepress to.get my t-shirts.printed. Of.course I wouldn't just have 5 designs because that would.be.utterly ridiculous, I meant starting off but it doesn't matter now because I've thought of several more designs. I am going to advertise my site on numerous platforms such as forums, youtube, facebook, newspaper, etc. Im sorry before about generation y thing but it annoys me because I work really hard and put in maximum effort in everything. Im very responsible so I think I would be capable to running a small business. Im sorry for all the full stops, I typed this on my phone ;)

Thnks

Hi,

I was not running you down. I started work at 14 too. And if you have the up and go. Then go for it . You maybe the next under 16 millionaire. We cannot tell.
So not trying to upset you. But just telling you that it is tough out here. And it may take a while to get going.
I printed 20 new designs last week ready for weekend. And only one really took off. Just bear that in mind. We are only taking from experience.

Aw young padiwan... (did I spell that right? I don't know Star Trek)

Start up fees:
Domain name: $10+
Hosting: free - $80+
SSL Cert -$60+
Dedicated IP - $60+
Custom website - $100+ (or monthly fee)
Start as an LLC? - $140 (in FL)
Start as a DBA? -$50 (in FL)
Licenses - $50+
5 Custom designs (Heat transfer) with 2 colors each - $500+ (varies/depends on so much)

And then there is this:
Marketing: ?
Equipment: depends on what you are doing -HP or traditional
Inventory- again, depends on your Business Plan
Trademark - $375 per if needed
Graphic design software -$100+ potential
Shipping - $100+

so much more.. and the numbers I gave are very conservative.
