Hello,

I am just getting started in the DTG business. I heard someone at a seminar talk about getting tshirt material scraps or pieces that they used for testing and getting things set up right. Can anyone give some advice on where I might find something like this?

Also, do most t-shirt makers sell seconds, or damaged shirts? How would one get these or ask for them?

Thanks,
David

You can get shirts at a goodwill or salvation army dirt cheap. You can buy seconds from a lot of the mills and their distributors. When you call them just ask if they have any seconds. I got a case of seconds once from blankshirts.com.

Everything that lben said would work. Also, keep in mind that over time, you will have some misprints here and there when printing jobs. You can save the misprinted shirts and reuse them for testing as well if needed.

I've done both of the above mentioned. I used other space on shirts I've misprinted to practice & set things up. I've got shirts from goodwill, here they're $0.99 and some you can get buy one get one free. I also use my family's personal tshirts that we're ready to get rid of.

I also make t-shirt quilts for people so I save all the extra backs and use those as well. I knew being a pack rat would come in handy one day!

The bed sheet is a good idea. I got some for $0.50 at the thrift store that were made of jersey material once when I was doing my first process printing years ago. works great. I have also gotten jersey fabric remnants from Hobby Lobby and Walmart before.

The idea of using old shirts that need to be thrown away is a good idea as well.
