Mug Press

We're looking to sublimate some mugs for the first time and I want to get a mug press (wraps aren't practical for our shop).

I'd love to have a DK3 but can't justify the cost. Has anyone had good luck with a more affordable press, maybe like one of the models on ebay?

Most mug presses are pretty basic and with sublimation inks the heat is the important factor. An EBay product might just suit your needs.
When looking for a cheap mug press, get one that has multiple elements. Reason being that when the 1 element burns out (and it will), you can always use the 2nd element with the thicker rubber to get by until you replace the element.

There are three issues with the cheap presses.

1. Despite what the instructions may say, when making mugs with them, it's important to NEVER pre-heat the element - rather press the 1st mug for a minute or so extra. Pre-heating the element results in the lifespan being reduced quite dramatically.

2. After ever 10 or so mugs, put a blank cold mug in the press, and leave the press off. The mug will absorb some of the heat that's built up in the element, and increase the lifespan of the element.

3. These presses usually come with proprietry controllers (so repairing them can sometimes be tricky), and measure temp is something other than degrees C or F.

Hi,

I have a mug press similar to the ones on ebay with control panel on side. Bought from novachrome. Not sure how they compete on price. But works well. And can get nearly 250 mugs done a day . If we are organised.
Hope that helps
I have a mug press and a 4 in 1 press that has a mug attachment and both work just fine. I got both on ebay. Just make sure you get one with digital heat and timer controls.
