I think it depends on how far you are moving it and how long it is idle. The best recommendation is to call the 1-800 brother tech support # and tell them what your plan is. I believe they have a PDF document that can walk you through the process depending on the variables listed above.
We just moved our Brother t shirt printers on the weekend. We didn't secure the heads and they were fine, we just put them in a fully enclosed van and drove really carefully. Came back and made sure all the heads were still locked in and then realigned everything and made sure they were level.
