I have a Roland BN20 printer/cutter. I am trying to print on a clear vinyl so I can use this in creating screens for screen printing. When I load the vinyl, it reads as "pinch roller position is incorrect". What am I doing incorrectly? Someone had said there are sensors I can "trick". Is this true?

There are sensors that detect when the media is "out", and they can be tricked to think there is media loaded... but without going into that, I have printed onto clear film before, though that was on an SP-540. I suspect it is not the sensors, but perhaps the pinch roller isn't on the grit roller?

With all that said, I have to let you know, my experiment printing onto clear film was for the same purpose, printing a film positive. I can tell you that our results were that the Eco-Sol black ink does not have the opacity required to produce a film positive, even on waterproof film. After printing on the film, I held it up to the light and was able to see right through it. This is not the printer to produce film positives.

Thank you for your answer. It was indeed the grit roller. I didn't realize they were so sensitive.

I was able to print on clear media. I had the printer return to the origin and print again. I did this twice, making for a total of three passes. It made a very nice, dark image. While that's a lot of ink, it's cheaper than buying an additional large scale printer. I have an 8.5" x 14" printer for the everyday screens. This is the only way I've found to print larger images.
