yes upgrades are just that. An upgrade on the software you already have. So if you do not have the software yet you will need to buy the full version. then every time a new release comes out you will be able to buy the upgrade and save a little money. some times it can be cheaper to find a used full copy of an older version and then purchase the upgrade but that all depends.

If you already have the full version of the software you should be able to buy the upgrade. HOWEVER, You need to check to make sure the version you have will be able to upgrade to the version you are planning on buying.

For example if you have "software version 1" and the new software you want to buy is "software version 25" you might not be able to upgrade directly. Meaning the "software version 25" may not upgrade from "software version 1". In that case you would have to find out what "software version 25" will upgrade from and buy that version also. So it might be something like upgrading from "software version 1" to "software version 12" then you can go to "software version 25". depending on all that it may be cheaper to just buy the full version of "software version 25".

I don't know how coreldraw does their upgrades but some software companies do it this way so always check before you buy an upgrade if you are quite a few versions behind the one you want to get.

As of this date you can upgrade Coreldraw! versions x4 and x5 to x6 for $199.
I would be very careful purchasing a used copy of software of any kind. If the license is maxed out, your purchase may be useless.
Amazon has a full copy for about $280, be careful not to purchase home or education versions.

I bought corel as an upgrade to paintshop pro, x4 . what they sent me was the full program. I have now bought the x6 upgrade and if x4 is not installed it will ask for the serial number to x4 before it will install x6.
So if your buying a upgrade make sure you have the required program for the upgrade. If you go to Corels site they will tell you what qualifys for the upgrade.
