dk 20 heat press
This is a good press, but unfortunately all clamshell presses can be temperamental with the 2 sheet laser transfers, and some work and better than others. You have to find the optimal settings for your press. Here is how you can test it and reduce wasted paper.
Before you start, buy an infrared thermometer and veryfy your press temperature. Don't rely on what the press shows.

  1. Take a pair of sheets and cut them in 4 long stripes. This way you can one strpe at a time, and reduce waste paper to 1/4. You can also pre-print the sheet before you cut it in stripes.
  2. Start with lower temperature, 2̶5̶0̶C̶ 250F and 6 pressure, and increase by 10 degrees until you get a good result.
  3. If unsuccessful increase pressure to 7 and start again from 250F.
  4. Repeat for pressure to 8 if necessary.
  5. If still unsuccessful consider repeating with pressure 4, 5 or even 3.

On my hix air operated press, here is what I found works best... 330 for 105 seconds at 45psi. I put a teflon sheet on the botton, then a parchment sheet, the A layer face up, B layer face down, anither parchment on top. I dont let the top pop open, it lets the paper jump off the bottom platten, I slowly raise the top by hand. Count to 10, thrn slowly roll peel the B layer off from one corner diagonally to the opposite corner.... Did 30 the other day, all of them perfect.

Thanks bob, i have lowered the pressure and the paper is not ripping. but now im not getting a clean emulsion tranfer you think if i up the temp it will help thanks for the help
It's a combination, of heat pressure and time. My bet would be at around 260C and 7 pressure for around 30-40 seconds. You just have to do the tests to be sure.
