Hi All - I am a newbie into this line of business. I am planning to start a new e-commerce site for the t-shirt business and promote good designs and get it printed from a 3rd party. But I am not able to decide upon what market segment should be targeted or what trend is in demand currently. Any help would be of great value!..

Kaos, maybe you should start by printing to a specific market that would buy the clothes that YOU like (like a labor of love!), or something that is big in your area. For instance I started by printing for local college students, they buy **** like crazy if it has our UofA colors or logo, or something to do with UofA.

Do a little research on what type of customer you want, say if its someone wearing high priced premium apparel, or standard logo on a shirt. I would also suggest hitting up apparel conventions, you just missed out on MAGIC, they have a ton of brands get together to showcase for buyers, and you can learn alot about trends and potential target markets.

Just like 2500hd said, you should find out what type of audience you are trying to target and then start narrowing it down from there.

Adults or teens? age group, genre

from there you can then find out what trends are popular and then make your products to match.

Thats all going to depend on what type of shirts your interested in making, and what clientele your going after. Once you know that you can start researching what's hot and what's not in your niche market.
And that was my biggest confusion. I did a little bit of research and I am going for 15-25 years of age. Which is a good place(website) to research what's hot and the latest trend.

My target audience is 15-25, I want to keep the designs pretty simple(I am not a designer though), attractive and funny. More or less relate to the actuals things occuring around the globe and create a humour out of it. "MAGIC" exactly, this is something I was looking for, how do i get information of such events in advance? I kinda want to meet with the designers and the companies which promote the latest trends and have a chat. Because on the website I read a lot of stuff, but still thats not enough to make a decision.

Age group from 15-25. But where to get the information about the latest trends etc.. I go to threaless.com and check thier site more often to get an idea, other than that I dont really have anything else.
