M2 frequent E084 Y2current error

Hi All,

This is my first post on the Forums. Thanks for reading!

I purchased a ColDesi (DTG Digital) M2 a few months ago. I use it on a daily basis to print multi-color graphics and photos on shirts, and I keep it very clean.

The machine arrived with problems - ink would not reach the head(a damper was torn), the print head would not print (the main board was bad) and I kept receiving 'E084 Y2current' errors. I had several conversations with a helpful tech from ColDesi who mailed me new dampers and mailed new fuses in an attempt for me to fix the problem.

After no success, ColDesi sent the technician to us free of charge, and he replaced some parts and made the M2 work. Naturally, this used up 1/4 of the ink from every bottle, but I was just excited to have it running.

However, a few days later, I started receiving 'E084 Y2current' errors again. This brings the machine to a halt, and requires a power-off to reset it. It appears that the solenoid that holds the carriage in place is not pressing down the plastic "release" far enough, and then the motor tries to pull the carriage while it is still restrained. I do not want to tinker much with it, as I don't want to somehow void a warranty.

The machine prints nicely, but I am now receiving E084 Y2current errors on a daily basis, sometimes 3, 4, 5 times a day. Interestingly enough, I have only received this error during head cleanings and nozzle checks. I have yet to receive an error during a garment print (I do not see an obvious reason; this could be coincidence?).

I am concerned about this error; the manual does not offer much insight. I have emailed ColDesi shortly before making this post, but I also wanted to see if anyone on here has had this issue.

I don't want to "knock" on the M2. I like the way it prints, it is easy to maintain and I am happy with the regular functions of the machine. But, having a degree in software development, it really freaks me out that this machine's computer is a Frankensteined Mutoh RJ-9000x. It's quite obvious that it is still very "beta", considering the machine's normal function includes errors such as "cover open" and "no waste ink tank" when these errors are misleading and false. The machine also hangs and requires restart if the bed is not in a precise location during startup. This all leads me to believe that E084 Y2current is another integration issue that has not fully been resolved. It also makes me feel bad for less-patient customers who have a higher dependency on this machine than I currently do.

Has anyone else experienced the E084 Y2current error? Do you have any advice for me? It is much appreciated!

Thank You,
Carmine

Hi Carmine,

I just spoke with my lead DTG tech - Bill Snyder, and he will be calling you today.

Hello Carmine,

I actually have/had this same exact error. I was getting this error almost every time i started up the machine. I just got it "somewhat" fixed today. After spending some time on the phone with a very helpful coldesi tech, who ran me through the different issues that could cause this. We focused on the "plunger" for a while, but something was telling me this just was not it. We ended up ending the day yesterday with him having me remove the print head to check the ribbon cables. I did. No burn marks, cables looked great. What I did find is that the print head was loose, they are not secured very well in these M-2's. The print head was not sitting correctly and making contact with something that seemed to be shorting out the printer, I even got a spark in my machine at one point. giving me that exact error. We made sure we secured the head and tried to make sure it was sitting exactly where it should be.

I say my problem was "somewhat" fixed because I have seen that error again one time today, but not near as many as before. (was giving the error 9 out of 10 times) now Gives it about 1 out of every 10 startups.

Now, I have also had the same issues with the print bed, giving me a 074 error when the bed is not loaded and I try to send over a graphic for print. I have circumvented this by always making sure the table is in the loaded position with the green light on.

I believe this is a larger electrical issue in the machine, I am no electrical engineer, but something just seems off. The tech said he agree'd with me about the electrical diagnosis, but who knows, I could be way off.

Please let me know if this helps, I am still trying to nail it down so I have no more errors at all!

Anthony

The machine has reverted back to not functional. It 084 error's every chance it can. The machine started to error out now during printing a quality dark garment. I got away with a white, but it seems to not like the darks. The machine will give me that error whenever I am sending information to it on the computer. For example: I send a file to be printed on a dark shirt. The shirt starts printing, if the file is still sending to the printer while it starts printing it errors out and freezes the file transfer on the PC. I have changed computers and even gone as far as to purchase a new PC. This "084 Y2current" error seems to pop up in all random places. During startup, while doing a cleaning, and now while printing. The printer will also freeze up if I try to send a file over before the printer is in the "loaded position" I was trying to have the file sent in full before I began printing, but the printer would just freeze and not react one I sent it a file over and tried to load the board.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Anthony,

The situation you mention with the bed is not an electrical problem, it is the way the printer is designed. Since we run in roll mode the printer has to be loaded before the data is sent to the machine. Hopefully you were instructed of this in training.

Glad things are better for you!

Hi Don,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, the problem has resurfaced. It has givin me the error during startup, but more often now I am getting it during printing.

Hey, it is all clear now. Thanks for notifying me. This rule of 5 maximum messages (which include sent messages) is less than sufficient.
I'm curious as to the solution in case I come upon this in the future. Was there any solution?

I don't have a solid solution, but here is what happened to get me running again:

ColDesi sent me a picture of this locking mechanism and asked that I ensure there is minimal play in it (should not tilt; some rotation is fine).

The overcurrent error is a broad error not specific to any one component. In my case, it is being triggered because the carriage motor is trying to move the carriage when it is still locked in place, and the motor draws too much current when trying to overcome the load. The source of trouble is that the carriage locking mechanism is not completely releasing the carriage.

I have not had the issue occur in a week since I fidgeted around with the locking mechanism. To be honest, I didn't do more than poke at it, rock it around, press it up and down and check the tilt. It may have been sitting in a position that caused it to not move freely, and manually playing with it seemed to have corrected that. I will let you all know if it comes back again.

Thanks,
Carmine

I was able to fix my error, which was the same exact error. The machine has not produced the error again.

My fix had to do with the ribbon cables coming from the black box that went down to the head. Those cables fold over around the middle of the cable. Where they folded, they were rubbing up against the metal piece that holds the dampers in place. The constant rubbing ended up wearing down the cable to the point where it was making electrical contact with the metal piece. Producing the E084 Y2Current error. that would happened randomly. Now that I understand what it was, I see that it was not random, but when the cable would hit the metal.

My quick fix was some electrical tape around the ribbon cable and on the corner of the metal damper holder where it was making contact. A long term fix would be a new cable and something in-between the cable and the metal piece. A piece of foam or something similar.

From what I see, it was a flaw that will eventually happen to any machine that has that ribbon cable touching the metal damper holder. It is inevitable, unless you take pro-active action to stop the two from contacting each other.

I got this when first getting the printer. This may be a separate issue, but I resolved mine like this. Bed up, let it self adjust. Load the platens. Wait for green light. Then print. If I try to print too soon I get an 84. Have to turn of the machine and restart.
Hello

Any help would be urgently appreciated

We kept getting the E084Y2current during prints so the printer would stop. Then yesterday the printer wouldn't turn back on after we emergency stopped it. Then I let it sit for a while before turning back on and I cleaned the encoder strip and around the Y axis. Then I turned it on and printed a few more tees, no problem then we cleaned it and were done for the day. Today it happened again during prints and then it won't turn back on and we let it sit for 30 min and still won't turn on…. What can it be??

Please help :(
Forachange,

Is the error happening randomly when the printer is moving or is it happening in the same location every time? If you could get be a picture of your carriage setup, including the ribbon cable from the head to the black box. I may be able to help. Thanks.

Directemb,

Hi in general I think it stops in the center of the printer but I can say for certain its the same spot every time.

The printer won't turn on at all. We checked the fuses and they are all good.

Okay, great, thank you for those pics. Can you take a look at the ribbon cable where it rubs up against the metal piece that holds the dampers in place. I was getting this same error and that was because the ribbon cable had worn down from rubbing up against the metal and I was getting an electrical short. I put some electrical tape over the worn part of the cable and on the corner on the metal damper holder. Let me know what you think.
We gave it a try but the printer still won't turn on…
Is the printer not turning on a new issue? My fix was to deal with the 084 error. When did the printer start not turning on?

Today we got the error and then it didn't want to turn back on. I think I put it in my first post today.
