I am looking to start a custom printing business when I go away to school. I would like to sell my own designs and also personalized designs for individuals, businesses, and organizations. Would you recommend dtg printing over screen printing? If so, what is the best choice for a printer? Are the prints on hoodies, crewnecks, beanies, sweats, etc. as good of quality as t-shirts? I appreciate all of the help, THANK YOU!

I think it depends entirely on what you want.

DTG printing is what I do and I run it out of my home for now. we make great money selling small quantities and the quality is almost unmatched. DTG machines range in cost from around 7K to 35K depending on what you want and ease of use/speed/quality.

I don't know how much all the screen printing stuff is but I know several screen printers who make great money as well.

I also know of several individuals who make some decent cash doing heat transfers. I personally don't like heat transfers but it is fairly cheap to get into and there are many tricks to get these looking amazing too.

There are several other options that I don't know much about but just keep doing research. And then research it all more... and then more before making a decision that will benefit you the best.
