Hey everyone,

My name is Mark and I am in the process of starting up a clothing company. This has sparked my interest in screen printing as a hobby, so i'm looking to get into that!

Mark. get ready to study your *** off. this IS A VERY HARD BUSINESS TO BE IN AS A START-UP. If you truly want to do it, then you have a long row to hoe in this business.Pulling a squeegee is a lot harder than you think let alone setting up a press and the whole thing about getting screens made right
. It is all done in house in my shop. wow you are jumping into something that is bigger than you are looking at as far as the financial layout. Save up $20,000 and get ready to use it all!
Hey Mark... like the poster above me said you will have a lot to learn. But I would have to disagree with the financial amount that was posted especially because you said you want to do it as a hobby... I started as a hobby and its still in that phase more or less, but I am starting to make it more of a side job that produces a income..

I have a 6 color 4 station press, olec 5000 watt vacuum exposure unit, 18x18 flash and a 24" by 8 foot long conveyor drier. I'm into the equipment less than a $1000. Granted I've gotten some really good deals buying used and its taken me about a year and a half to get it all. Along with curing shirts in my kitchen oven for the majority of the time. But it is possible to start small with a small budget especially in a hobby setting.

Get the book "how to screen print for fun and profit" that will tell you everything you need to know. Then post up here to fill in the blanks. Just don't get discouraged from people telling you to drop 10 grand on equipment, because it's not necessarily true

Thanks! I will check that book out! My plan is to just find used equipment or even take a shot a building it myself especially since I just want to try it as a hobby.
It's cool to hear that you started out as a hobby and it's turning into a side job!
Yea check the book out... it explains everything you need to know for the most part. It also has plans in the back to build a lot of the equipment. Also it tells you how to do stuff if you don't have the money for the "right or normal" equipment. That's where I learned you can cure t shirts in your kitchen oven.

Hope you have fun with it...
