I would like to get a job apprenticing to a shirt printer. As a way to get my foot in the door. No, I have not worked in a shop or anything like that. Ive been a General manager at Pizzeria's before, but I kind of feel like a change. I cant draw, and my photoshop/corel skills are meager at best. I just want to start. Its not like there is a Screen Printing class at my local community college. What should I do?

I would say the best thing you could do is get some videos on screen printing and see if is is something you realy want to do it is going to be hard to get a job with no experience, no one wants to take time to teach you is slows down production if you go to silkscreeningsupplies.com you can buy some basic videos that will get you started. :) good luck

As a new tshirt business owner, soon to hire ANOTHER screen printer, here's what I'll look for in a new hire.

First off, it's great if you have screen print/garment decorating experience, but it's not a death knell if you don't. I have found some of the best workers are those with no exposure to the industry, thus no bad habits ; )))

For someone without experience, I want to see some mechanical/machinist aptitude, some design sense, and the ability to think & work fast, & resolve problems on the fly. Being a perfectionist and a neat-freak is a must! I can't stand messy screens laying around & a cluttered shop. Having computer skills is a plus, and will earn you more $$.

Don't be afraid to walk in every shop and ask for an apprenticeship. You'll eventually find someone willing to take a risk on you. Make a deal to work for free and work your a$$ off until you've proven your worthiness, and the possibility of a paycheck. Good luck!

Have a friend that was hired as just a printer, She found it extremely boring.Me ..I like that kind of thing as I tend to daydream and wander quite abit. If you can learn the puter and design etc. it would probably be more interesting. I love the sound of the sqeege being pulled across the screen.
Have fun and good luck
