Loading .jef files to load on my janome memory craft 400e

Hello All,
I am new to the embroidery world. I just purchased a Janome Memory Craft 400E. I have not purchased the digitizing software yet.
However I have sent a file off and had it digitized for my machine.
I received the file back in a .jef format.
I purchased a brand new 2 gig USB drive just for my embroidery files.
When i try to open the file on my computer it will not open.
Is there a particular software i need in order to get this digitized file on the USB so i can embroider it?

Not familiar with that machine, are you having problems opening the file on your computer or on the embroidery machine?

If it's on your computer, you need a digitizing program that can read .JEF files. Windows does not come with anything that can read them...
