I purchased a new Epson WF-7210 with plans to print mugs, etc., I also purchased the sublimation ink kit from Cobra Ink for this printer. In the instructions, it recommends that you make sure that the printer is printing correctly before you put in the Cobra Ink kit. I am not sure what to do about this. I had read several places to not place the regular ink that comes with it into the machine, but to put the sublimation ink in only. But I can't test it without some ink.

I am looking for advice as to what I should do!

Thank you!

If you're using cartridges, I've seen it done both ways. I don't think it matters much.

When I got the WF7110 Cobra told me to just put the refillable cartridges in from the beginning. But I have switched out back to the Epson cartridges from time to time when I had some head clogs (cheaper to use the cartridges that came with your Epson than the Cobra ink for head cleanings).

I've heard some people even regularly switching between cartridge sets depending on their print job.

If you're using a CIS that needs installing, it makes sense to test with your Epson cartridges first.

I went straight to using the Cobra cartridges and ink.

Cobra just doesn't want you wasting their time, and yours, if there is a problem with your printer rather than their cartridges. If third party cartridges don't seem to work, you can always stick in the OEM starter set and see if they work. Then you'll know whether the problem lies with Epson or the maker of the third party cartridges.

Of course, Epson won't support the printer if you tell them you even tried to run anything 3rd party in it, so verifying that the printer works with OEM before trying 3rd party is being more "honest" in terms of warranty support.
