You know I pretty much only trace in corel these days but even on great traces letters are a problem.. you are way better off if you have any ability in Illustrator to trace your art and set the type yourself.. It is so easy to set type in any of the more popular progams today that tracing or I should say trying to trace them is a real pain

...usually caused by low resolution originals?
i dont use corel i dont even have it on the computer yet. letters always give me trouble and i will try and just do the text myself.
try vector magic... you may have to just re-create it..
i just put it in ps and made it 650 dpi, then copied it and opened a new project with a dpi of 300 and pasted the image there. then i saved it as jpg and put it in illustrator and it traced fine.

Nice to hear that worked. I've always had some issues with auto trace. Not just text, but sometimes there are just those fine lines that won't do right. Most of the time I blur just a bit (like .1), drag the minimum area all the way to zero, then if it looks pixelated bump up until it looks ok. Make sure the corner is at zero. If that doesn't work, I set the type myself. LOL. Sorry I'm not much help! I will definitely follow your steps next time I have an issue!
I live trace what I can but usually I always have to just retype the text. I spend a little time looking for the correct font. It makes all the difference having clear and straight text.
They really should make it a little more functional.
I Love Live Trace. I don't use it for everything, just when I need to save time. It can also be used to make artistic overlays and other cool elements. I mainly use it when hand drawing elements that I want to add to an existing piece.

It's nice to have at least a 200 dpi file at your desired size to make Live Trace do letters well. Good to see it worked out for you.
Live Trace is great, but not with text, as everyone else is saying. With images though, sometimes you will have to clean up the nodes (points on the lines) a bit by hand. I usually vectorize my ink drawings this way, but I always end up taking it into CorelDraw to clean up the nodes and color it. (cleaning nodes and lines is 100x's easier in CorelDraw than in Illustrator)
**I am curious, how many screen printers take time to clean up weird and out-of-place nodes in an image before printing it? Is it that important? (I imagine it depends on how big you are going to print the image, and how much $ is coming from the job)
I would also say it depends on how noticeable they are as well if people take the time to clean them up.
try vector majic, its the best trace program imo
James, interesting as we were emailing, cleaning up art for transfers turns out to be way more important than cleaning up for regular printing.. In the transfers the fact the design is first going right onto paper versus a course and loose fabric makes quite a difference..

I clean up every single image that I do. It's my reputation on the line every order.
I'm known to go the extra mile and have all of my work very clean.
If I am printing for my own line it is all usually made in illustrator by me. When i do work for others I have to trace and I try and clean it up to perfection. But if it is something small and not noticeable I leave it alone.
I tend to clean up everything too. Too much of a perfectionist I guess.
did you try messing around with threshold?

They're funky because the image is of low resolution and possibly improper trace settings like too much smoothing. However, that image is relatively easy (very easy) to do from the ground up. Usually, as others have posted, traced image requires some cleaning up.
