In my experience it doesn't matter which you do first. You can protect the side you have already done by putting a Teflon pillow inside the shirt when you press. I got mine at Stahls, but I'm sure you can get them from many distributors.
Letter and Number Question
I am new to putting numbers and transfers on shirts. I am putting letters and numbers on the back of a shirt, and atransfer on the front. Should I put the front on first or the back? Also, is the heat press going to melt the transfer on the other side?

I put the sheet of paper that come off the transfer inside my shirt after I put the design on the front.
Shouldn't matter which side is transferred first.
