I am looking at transferring some of my designs onto clothing by using a heat press!

My knowledge is pretty basic and just want as much help and information as possible on the following:

Would it be okay to print off a paint/microsoft word document?

If I was transferring onto coloured clothes how would i cut the design out of the transfer paper?

Thanks a lot for your help

Do you want to print something you made in paint, or an image you found elsewhere?
Dark colors require dark transfer paper which can be cut with sharp scissors if the design isn't too intricate. Or you can use a rotary cutter which looks like a pizza cutter, but again, as long as the image isn't intricate. Otherwise, the only way to properly cut this paper is with a relatively expensive plotter/cutter. If the shirts are light colors, you need light transfer paper which can be easily cut with scissors.

yes it would be like a simple design in paint

if i was wanting to transfer a word or a quote onto a shirt, would that be too intricate to use scissors for?

how does a plotter/cutter work exactly?

thanks a lot for getting back to me!

I try to keep my stuff all connected in the design and use the border to connect everything. Fill in the gaps with color.

If you need stand-alone letters then a transfer film could work. I have never found any information on the best transfer film to use with iron-ons.
