Laser toner colors too dark and off color

I just put in new laser toner cartridges. They don't print anywhere near the same colors that the origianl toners printed. I've modified...totally distorted...the colors and still cannot get the right tones. Noticed the cartidges were darker, not nearly as bright, as the origianals. Is this a usual thing or did I get a bad batch?
