OK not real clear on your question but I will take a stab at an answer for you

Most cap embroidery is limited by the Cap not the frame unless your using an older Window Style frame or a home style machine that does not have a true cap frame system.

If your using some home machines you can now get the Dream Frame Hat Hoop from Hoop Tech Products and it works great on commercial equipment and I have heard people like it for home machines as well.
I have very limited exposure to home type equipment so I cannot comment first hand.

If your seeing caps in retail stores where the embroidery goes all over the cap then your looking at embroidery that are done BEFORE the cap is made as a panel program where the embroidery is done on flat material not a finished cap. There are companies you can do that with but not in low volume.

If none of the above applies give us more detail on what you using equipment wise and maybe we can help more.

I have a commercial machine and I notice that the hat style now is in large embroidery stich that is bigger than the standard cap frame. I was wondering is there a aftermarket frame that you can use to sew higher than the 2.5 of a standard frame.

What type of machine are you running ?
Do you have a 270 Degree Cap Frame or Window Style now ?
Most late model machines come with a 270 Cap Frame which holds the hat at the bill and does not care how large or small the height of the design is but you can only go as high as the acual cap allows.
Every cap is different in its profile as to the height it will allow.

Some cap drivers on the machine are also adjustable and can be moved to allow more support for a taller cap frame.

We have hats that we can go above 2.5 on but they are NOT that popular these days.

The Height of embroidery is dictated by the height and the cap and what style cap frame used.

You will never get tall designs on low profile unconstructed caps for unless you do it as a panel program.

You can get above 2.5 on a high profile construced cap using a 270 style or hoop tech cap frame but the height of the cap must be tall enough to allow for that to happen. Not a popular cap these days but they were in the past.

Another issue is the angle of the back of the head on some machines limits the movement forward which effects how close you can get to the bill of the cap. Some brands this changes from Model to Model other they are all the same.
