Forum virgin so go easy.

My company currently outsources all its hot sublimation work. We used to do the same with emboirdery but a few years back we brought that in house and have found the economic, time management etc benefits so great that we now do all embroidery in house.

As our Hot Sublimation business has grown rapidly in the past 18 months we are looking to bring that in house too. 90% of our current work is sporting uniforms (eg footy jumpers) so we are talking large scale print onto fabric and then cut and sew to make a garment. Seeing the options for blanks like the vapor apparel I can also see applications for this type of work in our business.

My problem is where to start. Being based in Tasmania there is obviously nothing down here so I want to make a trip to Melbourne or Sydney to gather the info I need. I am looking for recommendations on suppliers of printers, heat presses, paper, ink but also people who can demonstrate the processes etc. I've spent a bit of time in this forum on the sublimation threads and found alot of that useful info there.

Can anyone recommend places I can go and see products and get demo's. I need to arm myself with information so I can make the right choices.

cheers, Brummer

Why? More Choice for Hot Sub or just less swine flu?
More choice. The equipment is available in Melbourne, but the head offices tend to be in Sydney. By the sound of it you're going to be wanting more than your average suburban small business heat press, so you might want to be dealing more directly with the larger companies, rather than a re-seller who might not even know anything about the bigger equipment.

Presumably you could find what you want in Melbourne, but I think Sydney would cut out more middlemen.

Who in Sydney would you recommend?
Well, the two companies I linked above for two.

Hi Brummer and welcome to the forums!

I guess, "where to start" will depend on a few things. How large do you want to go? How much are you prepared to spend? What type of heat press? A roller press is mainly suitable for fabrics, a flatbed can be used for other substrates as well. What are your requirements for a printer? Format? Speed? etc.

GJS Machinery in Sydney has a couple of different models of heat presses to offer, including Geo Knight Maxi press used by some forum members. They also have large format printers and loads of good consumables and blanks.

Large heat presses usually are shipped in as required and second hand ones come and go very quickly to those in the know (I love my monti antonio 90, 900 x 1300mm shuttle)

It's much easier to find a large format printer - either new or second hand. You can get dye-sub Roland, Mimaki and Mutah printers and consumables from a variety of sources - try Fuji Sericol, they have a division specialising in large format dye-sub printing.

If you are ever in Melbourne or just have any questions to ask, you are welcome to get in touch and I'll take you through the ropes of the process :)

Good luck,
