i bought a used cap-press that is even older,
runs like a champ

bring some temp strips and do a quick test, check pressure and platens

mine could not hold the upper platen up, so i just added some aircrraft cable to hook it onto the pressure knob,
but the pressure and temp were perfect so....

genny, i got your number
i need to make you mine genny

just bring some of the carrier sheet from htv that has the adhesive backing
then cut into small pieces and use that to hold your temp strips down

you should only need 3 strips

or bring an infra-red gun may nt be degrees accurate, but will show consistency),
or bring a cap and some pre-cut vinyl
or bring a strip of t-shirt material and a pre-cut vinyl design

i would probably do #3

Hold my temp strips down to what? Adhere them to a mug, wrap that, and press it? That might work.
Yes, use a mug in it...put them strips on the mug so they will be against the heating element in various places. Another good test on a mug press is to print a black box and press it onto a mug and see what happens. It will tell you a lot about the element and if it is heating even.
