I have just replaced the printer carriage on my Kiosk II along with the ribbon cable. Upon powerup, the unit powered on but did not enter a startup mode. I loaded the tray and that loaded fine at first, but then slowed down. Turned power off and then back on a few minutes later to have the error light remain on. A scent of burning came from under the bed (electrical burning). I inspected the power board to see nothing burnt. My f ear at this point is a motherboard issue. I am at the point where I feel a professional is needed to ressurect the machine. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on facilities that would refurb the machine without breaking the bank? I'd sure love to make a second shirt on this machine! Thanks for any advice!

When our power supply burned out it was very difficult to spot the burning. The burning was on the underside of the power supply, and I had to take it out and visually inspect it. Not until after I compared it with a new board did I find the burning. What looked like left over flux was actually the burned component on the board.

First, It's important to figure out why the board burned out in the first place, ours was due to ink dripping down the side of the bed, then down the side of the Mainboard cover and on to the power supply.

You can get a new power supply from compass micro, but you'll have to solder the red and black wire to it.

First, let me thank those who have taken the time to offer advice and solutions.

The list of problems that I have experienced may assist in determining the best course of action for repair. My partner and I are at a point where we are considering sending the unit to a facility for complete refurbishment. I have the capacity to diagnose and repair many of the issues that these machines encounter, just not a great deal of time (and my patience is wearing a bit as well). My partner is a network engineer and quite proficient with any computer program that we have encountered.
We purchased the unit from Ebay 1 year ago. The unit had been refurbished from SWF Mesa, yet I do not have the records as to what was performed because it was prior to our purchase. I can honestly say that all of the errors are rookie errors and not the fault of the machine. Being a newbie, we are truly learning with each step. I had an ink draw problem from day one, but that has been resolved. I have had to replace several printer heads due to clogging and corrosion at the printer cable. Several printer cables due to getting liquid on them and them shorting out. The printer carriage is the result of the tabs breaking that the print head retainer screws thread into. There were error lights on that remained on when I used an oversized screw to retain the print head with the retainer. The lights would go off when the retainer was not used and the print head just sat in the carriage. I assumed there was some sort of sensor that sat in the carriage, or printhead, that indicated that the printhead was in the proper place. After replacing the the print head carriage, now we have the power issue. I do not see anything that is burned on the power supply board after visual inspection of both the top and underside of the board. I'd prefer not to throw parts at the unit. I'd also not prefer to waste a great deal of money by putting it in the hands of a company who will overcharge me for parts and labor. Any further suggestions? Thanks you in advance!

Parts will go bad .. that's just the nature of electronics.
The power supply was 30 something dollars from compass micro and just needs 2 wires soldered to it, you can use your old board as an example.

I would try replacing it before sending it back for a refurb, it could save you alot of time and $$.

Honestly, you could refurbish it yourself..

Parts from dtginks.com and the bag system

Adam and I use the bag system (eliminates the bottles and many ink problems you are having)

after you get the power up and running PM me and I can help you out.

this is perfect time to switch out your ink and start making money.

we are in the processing of refurbishing one right now basically just parts ..no labor or printer shipping costs.

I spoke with Dan from DTG inks today and he gave me some advice which I will try tomorrow or Thursday. I may give the personal refurb a shot. I guess it will depend upon my frustration level in the next few days. This machine may not produce t shirts, but it has become a patience tester. Maybe i can find a way to market that.

Here's the end result of all my problems. Dan from DTG Inks helped me out immensely with some advice and guidance. The machine (DTG Kiosk II) needed a replacement of the printer carriage which I performed. I also replaced the capping station and wiper assembly, the encoder strip and a new set of printer ribbon cables. After following the instructions Dan provided, the machine still needed one final repair and that was jumping the fuse on the motherboard. With some very careful soldering, the machine powered up and printed a nozzle check on the first run. No problems now and with fingers crossed, I'll be back to true printing very soon! Thanks, Dan, and the rest of you who assisted through advice and experience! Every bit helped!
