Greetings, currently keeping a copy of signed customer credit card receipts on file and would like to know if anyone else is keeping their receipts. If so, do you have some type of special filing method that you would like to share? How long should they be kept if this is even necessary?

we keep them by day and then bundle by quarter with the work orders. If we have to go back we can but in 10 years nothing has ever come back.

They are boxed up, taped up and we never look at them again. I can't say but we don't keep anything longer than 3 years except for taxes.

I'd say if you have some kind of reprint/return policy, use that as your basis and then maybe double it "to be safe". So for example if you have a 90 day return policy, keep the receipts for 180 days.

Alternatively, you can scan them all and store them digitally, then you can keep them forever.
