Your wiper blade is a crucial component when it comes to reliable ink flow - every time you run a cleaning cycle (and many times during normal operation) it ends with the wiper blade passing across the surface of the print head, to remove excess ink. If your wiper blade is covered in dried ink, you will be watching your printer drag dry, rubbery ink across the print head at repeated intervals, doing nothing to help keep your system clean. In fact, you run the risk of damaging your print head by pushing dry ink into the sensitive channels!

The trick with the wiper blade is that the ink can accumulate over time, drying layer after layer until you can barely even tell that it is actually ink - oftentimes, new users mistake the dry, rubbery ink for the wiper blade, itself! Pay extra careful attention during your daily maintenance cycles, taking great care to wipe all fresh ink off the wiper blade at the end of each day, ensuring it never has time to dry. You should also focus on all areas surrounding the wiper blade, as ink buildup on the spring mechanisms can eventually cause binding.

LOOK AT THAT RUBBERIZED INK BEING PEELED FROM THE WIPER BLADE!! THAT CAN'T BE GOOD FOR RELIABLE DTG PRINTING OPERATION...

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU - SERVICE YOUR WIPER BLADE, REGULARLY! ITS THE LITTLE THINGS WHICH ULTIMATELY MAKE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE...

Nice images and PSA - we have the same issues of course on our DTG and also on our Solvent printer. It's amazing how quickly it can build up. On our solvent printer, you have to kneel down, on one leg, hold one hand behind your back, rotate your torso...... they're in a tight spot is what i'm sayin.

For DTG printers, I recommend cleaning daily - it only takes a minute to save yourself a lot of headache and heartache, down the road. Some users keep their wiper blade in operation for a year or two, but the reality is most brands can get a replacement blade for only a few dollars so its not that big of a deal to replace it every 3 months. It is such a critical component, and it is so inexpensive, so no reason to wear it into the ground.
