Hi Guys,

Im on the verge of picking this printer up and throwing it out of the window!

I have had nothing but trouble with the printer and the support from the local dealer is disgusting to say the least!

My recent problem is that whenever you hit print.... the printhead starts moving and then the platen goes forward then back and then says media setting!! and then reverses it back and then says load again. When loading it again it starts printing right at the very top of the shirt only.

What would cause it to not load media in the 1st place?

I have had the machine for just over a year now. Spent over £14,000 on it and only printed about 30-40 shirts maximum. Absolute joke.

Hi, two things spring to mind here ,could be something to do with print pro I'd reinstall it just incase its become corrupt and is throwing out the wrong settings for the platens the other is the media detector switch could be faulty (located halfway down drive belt) I presume that the platens are the right way round and dtg supplied as they have to be of the exact measurements when loaded to be detected correctly.

so we managed to get it to print. but i cannot get the printer printing the second pass. no matter what we do with the rip. we selected template 2up for our 2 board platen (we have the extension roller version), select 2 passes on prinzer hit load. then it prints a white underbase. as soon as this is finished, printer ejects to front again (saysing MEDIA SETTINGS!!! Reversing), display reads ready 2 of 2 but does not reload the platen. rip software keeps sending the job (no errors or anything) but not printing 2nd pass.... doing it manually with load button does not work either.....

i am sure it has to do with the Rippro 5 and somehow the printer misinterprets things?

any ideas, guys?

any ideas what we are doing wrong?

Hi Davitos,

It sounds like you are having a similar problem to me.

Did you spray the bottom of the platen with temporary adhesive to stop it slipping?

Try using an alcohol wipe and wipe clean the bottom of the platen and also the white plastic knob located halfway down the bed off to the right of the conveyer belt.

After I did that it solved my problem

thanks, steve, for advise :)

it seems our problem was simple to solve: we might have entered the platen the wrong way. there is a strip under the right side of the platen that gives it a grip. we pointed this strip to where the display panel is and we didnt have any further problems.

Is the platen still level with the strip only on the right side? Or does that strip make the right hand side higher than the left.

If it does make it higher if may effect print quality and put your head at risk of striking the garment.

its all well balanced out, there is no side higher or anything.

what print modes do you guys use for light and dark shirts?

we would like to use HS modes in order to increase production.

for whites we use 1440x720 HS with two passes

and for darks we use 1440x1400 HS with MAX INK mode one pass and a 1440x720 HS pass for color.

I'm having problems atm with colour and ink issues so I would not like to comment on what mode I use as every shirts different and needs tweaking.

I have an engineer coming tomorrow who could possibly shed abit of light on my problems.

Unfortunately the printer does not seem very reliable. I have heard the viper and the HM1 is alot more reliable.

I'll see what happens tomorrow

ok, fair enough :)

please let us know what print modes the tech recommends ....

thanks!

also, what is your turn on, turn off procedure? do you disconnect the WIMS power when turning it on at the back?

do you leave the WIMS running over night and just power down the printer at the front panel and not at the back also?

Turning on

  • Switch Printer on
  • Carry out a head clean
  • Do a nozzle check
  • Do a test print
Turning Off

  • Hit clean on the printer display
  • Use alcohol wipe to manually wipe the print head
  • Use a swab stick dipped in cleainign solution to wipe the capping station edges and wiper blade
  • fill capping station with cleaning solution and then hit clean on the display screen again. This will seat the head in the cleaning solution on the capping station so it doesnt dry out.
  • Press off on display panel
NEVER SWITCH THE PRINTER OFF AT THE BACK. THIS WILL ALSO TURN THE WIMS SYSTEM OFF AND WILL CAUSE THE WHITE INK TO SEPERATE OVER TIME.

i set my WIMS system to run for 10 mins every 2 hours.

If you cover the printer at the end of the day then ensure your leave the WIMS System outside of the cover

thank you for your wisdom :)

so my problem with the media settings is back. it only happens when i print white underbase. i did a print run of a couple of white only 2 passes shirts and no problemo here.

as soon as i add underbase and it prints white ink it gives me media settings!! after the white ink pass.

any ideas, folks??

thanks! :)

Turning on

  • Switch Printer on
  • Carry out a head clean
  • Do a nozzle check
if your nozzle check is 100% you should not have to test
print

  • Do a test print
Turning Off

  • Hit clean on the printer display
  • Use alcohol wipe to manually wipe the print head
alcohol is a drying agent and causes premature aging to your parts

  • Use a swab stick dipped in cleaning solution to wipe the capping station edges and wiper blade
  • fill capping station with cleaning solution and then hit clean on the display screen again. This will seat the head in the cleaning solution on the capping station so it doesn't dry out.
  • Press off on display panel
Your techniques are good but having to do test prints is a chore and waste of money. Once we changed our inks we stopped doing test prints because we finally got 100% nozzle checks the first time instead of the 6th or 10th time after constantly cleaning.

alcohol is a drying agent and causes premature aging to your parts : if you must use alcohol dilute it with distilled water do not use at full strength.

so we tried:

underbase: 1440x1440 HS
color: 1440x1440 HS

--> working

underbase: 1440x1440
color: 1440x1440

--> working

underbase: 1440x1440 HS
color: 1440x720 HS

--> error Media Settings after the white ink pass....

weird...
