Morning/Afternoon All,

I had my first attempt at pressing some JPSS transfers over the weekend. Unfortunately it wasn't very successful.

I tried to print emblems and numbers which contained white. However they didnt come out at all. In fact the colours all looked a littled faded. However it was the lack of white which concerned me most. As the images below show the white can't be seen over the T shirt colour.

The T shirts were Sky Blue and Red.
Can anyone suggest why this happened? Is JPSS only really good on white garments and with no white colour in the transfer?

Here was my setup:

Printer Epson SX415 with Durabrite Inks
Printer Settings: plain paper with Photo Image selected.

Using JPSS paper.

1) Pre Pressed T shirt for 5-10 secs.
2) Pressed T shirt for 30 secs on 190-195 celsius. Used Heavy pressure.
3) Waited 5-10 seconds then peeled off backing to reveal transfer.

Any thoughts are gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

Your printer does not print white. All papers for white and light colors must be used only for that and not for dark colors.
Would Sky (light) blue be classed as a "dark" in this context? I assumed (probably incorrectly) that JPSS would be ideal for this colour. I kind of thought JPSS on red would've been problematic.

I understand my printer doesn't print white. But for my education, if I was to print White or Light coloured font/graphics on a non-white garment. I would need an opaque paper (like Jet 3G)?

A light pastel blue would be considered a light color. Anytime you use JPSS or ClearSoft on anything but white you will lose some of the vibrancy. And yes, you would need an opaque paper for printing light colored graphics on a non white shirt.

Hello everyone,

How noticeable is the non-printed part of the film on light color (not white) shirts? Enough to make it necessary to trim the paper?
Thanks!
It depends on how good you want the finish to be. I always try to trim as much as possible as there will always be some residue left behind but I find after a wash there is far less.

With opaque paper, you want to get some heat transfer tape if the design has separate parts like letters or numbers. Transfer tape holds everything to the shirt before you put the press down. You'll need to trim around the edges well to eliminate the white background unless you can fill the background with a color or gradient that does not take away from the design. Otherwise, you will have a white box around your image. I use a cutter to trim on opaque paper, a lot easier than scissors.

Hope this helps.
