Hi guys,

I'm using JPSS and my T-Shirts look great. Nice vivid colours. I'm very happy with them. But what I have noticed is after peeling, there's still some ink left on the paper. Is this normal or should the paper be clear? Like I said my T-Shirts still come out great but i'm just wondering.

My print settings are:

Paper Type:
Epson Matte

Quality
Normal / Standard

I'm using pigment inks.

I press for 30 seconds at 190 Degrees (375 Fahrenheit)

Peel instantly when hot and stretch the design.

Press again for about 10 seconds with Teflon sheet covering and peel hot, but that's not important as my question is about the ink still being on the JPSS paper.

Actually. I take back what I said about my T-Shirts looking great. Ok they don't look bad but i'm having this yellow tint issue that appears after pressing. I'm using Epson Durabrite pigment inks until I run out and then i'm getting some 3rd party inks.

When I peel the paper off, the image has fully transferred to the T-Shirt but there's still some ink left on the paper like I said. What I have been noticing is the ink that's left is quite yellow. Maybe I have the temperature too high, maybe i'm pressing too long?

Please help.

sounds normal

if your pressed images are shifting towards yellow,
go into advanced settings and adjust yellow down

use photo/best photo on matte setting

teflon will throw temps/dwell times off,
plus it will pick up ink (so wipe down after every press with alcohol)
or simply use parchment paper

i think for the epsons to really 'accept' the non-oem carts/cis,
you should install the oem first then swap

edit: i just finished a bunch of 'photo' shirts with jpss and epson dura-brite
and i made the initial mistake of using my old non-oem ink settings and the yellow shift was terrible
so i tinkered with the settings on 3"x3" small jpss samples with different settings until i got rid of the yellow-shift
this is what worked on my cx7800:
matte ~ photo
advanced:
epson vivid ~ high speed off ~ edge smoothing on ~ gamma 2.2 ~ yellow -5 ~ cyan -5

Thanks for replying! It's really appreciated!

Okay I will turn the yellow down for now and see how it turns out.

Use photo / best photo setting? Wouldn't this use too much ink? On the instructions and from what i've read online people just use the normal setting.

About the teflon picking up ink.... that was something else I was going to ask about. I'll have to try wiping it down with alcohol.

What happens when you yourself peel the transfer off? Do you still have some ink left on the paper? I'm just wondering if this is normal.

there is a fairly harsh yellowing/inking left on the paper after peel,
what is most important is the image on the tee

you are right about the ink being laid down thicker with matte photo/best photo settings,
but my epson model will throw black ink blobs/splatters on the jpss in plain paper
the end hand is fairly similar (the adhesive layer is far thicker than the ink layer regardless of setting, unless you over-saturate)

teflon absorbs and holds heat, so you should probably adjust up never down on time temp settings,
you will know it is too high/low when blotches appear on the peeled design or the paper is sticking too aggressively
i had to bump mine down to 25 secs on that run, but that also may have been a function of the extra ink in the matte setting
or using the durabrite's and not non-oem inks

mgparrish posted a really good image to fine-tune your settings,
i made it about 3.5" then pasted it in the upper-left corner, made a note of the settings
printed, copy-pasted beside the original and deleted original, adjusted settings, made a note of these and printed again
next time i copy-pasted below the first one, new settings, print.......
till the page was filled with 6 images of different settings
then press, and see where you are at
it may take a sheet or two, but you are now dialed in for your printer and ink

(i attached mgparrish's image in the zip below)

I hard you are looking for 85%-90% ink removal. if the ink left behind is a nice fade image of your print then you should have a good print. i use cobra inks and the paper does still hold ink when i am done but it is much lighter
