I am doing jacket backs for a school. The design is all lettering and the size is 7.80" high by 9.5" wide.

How far from the top (I usually measure down from the bottom seam line of the collar) should I be placing the top of the design. I was going 4 1/2" from that seam line to top of design, but my husband said it looked too high up. Customer said they have no preference, but I want them to look good.

Hi Vicki,
I have done a lot of jacket backs in the last year. I would print the design out and tape it together then try it in a few positions on the back to get a good look at it.

Hi Vicki, We don't normally do anything higher than 6 1/2 inches from the seam line.

I was looking around on the internet and found a few different sites that said 7"-9" to the center of the design. I measured mine to the center and I was right about there. They just looked a bit high to me, but I like the idea of making a template and eyeballing it. That is what I usually do, don't know why I didn't this time! Thanks!

When figuring placement consider that some people may have long hair that will hide a design with a high placement and the placement should vary according to the jacket size.

We base it on the sleeve and height o the design. Normal top is half way down the sleeve. Hoodies are 5-6 inches down

If there is a seam at the top we go right below that.
