assuming you have photoshop, and are scanning into it.. You can watch some or any of the tutorial on photoshop? anyhow you need to scan it into photoshop... hopefully your scanner will bring it in at 300 or 600dpi.. then go to levels, play with it or even just the adjustment for brightness and contrast and make it a higher contrast image in black and white.. look at it as you need it and go for it..

How big is the drawing in the frame?

If it is too big for your scanner.
Before taking a picture of it. I would take it out of the frame, or get rid of the glass for a start.
That will reduce your light reflections.

I have photoshop cs3. it lets me scan large images in sections then I can use the "Photomerge" selection. under the File> Automate> Photomerge. This will let me put a large image made up of several tiles together.
