So i decided to draw this characters out of this book but i changed them up a lil..but is this legal to print on a shirt? The art is draw by me and its my version of the character..could i print it on a shirt?

It's a gray area due to the changes you have made. If they were the same then it's not legal, depending on how much you changed them is the issue.

I would say that if the character is distinguishable, you may get yourself in trouble for using the likeness of the character, if it is protected, which most likely it is, if it is in a book.

You need to take it along with the original to an IP lawyer. Usually if you have actually copied something, even if you have changed it significantly, it's still going to be illegal.

The thing you have to be aware of is that even if it's "different enough" to you, or even to your lawyer, you will have to be ready and willing to go to court and spend $$ to defend it if the other party decides to sue you. That's what it really comes down to.
