Hi I wanted to see what others think is a fair price for something this big.I have a job that has 96,601 stictches to be exact. It takes me almost 2 hours to complete and was gonna charge $90.

Is that a fair price?

How many are you doing?

We did a oneoff design with 100K stitches on a leather vest and charged $650. For volume we charge down to $20 for the same amount of stitches.

 Wow that's crazy that someone would pay that much to have a embroidered on to something. I price stuff that I don't want to do higher than normal and it always seems as if the customer never bats an eye and just says "okay, do it."

How much is the garment you are doing it on worth?.....A job that big might not go smooth and you might have to replace a garment.....

Not really. It was a very unique job and a one of a kind.

I charge 1.25/K. Discount for cheaper - the other way is $55/hr for machine use - I rate the machine for 1k stitches/min - even if I do not run it that fast. So I would be charging at least $100 - if they have at least 5 maybe 90 - if ten then no set-up charge. I do a lot of leather vest and varsity - so you need to make in case of a hiccup and just keep your fingers cross.
Thanks for the replies. It's for a patch for a club in my state. I did a sample n took atleast an hour forty five mins. I usually price at $60 an hour.

I don't think they'll order more than one at a time either.
If this job is likely to repeat, find an overseas supplier.....Been a couple years but did 12 full back patches for around 200.00 landed.....The supplier notes are on a dead computer so I can not get at them right now.....
the only problem is if they come in 1 or 2 at a time then better to do self - or you buy extra and they do not come back -now you have more samples you do not need.
So something like this that is 1 at a time, eh, maybe $100 or even $50. You only have to change the bobbin, what, 3 times for each? Who knows what other work that will bring you. Now if your machine is busy 24/7 then you can give them a go-away price and if they bite then there you go.
That's the thing im not really busy. So would you say that $65 is still good?

Don't really know how much they will make at a time but I know it'll b 1 here and there seeing it is a patch.

Thanks again
How many heads do currently have in your shop now binki?

I currently have a single head.
$80 should be your lowest for the opening quote. If they have 10 then do the $65 amount.
If you price to low and some one sees it they will expect the same rate. I did this when I started and it is hard to raise prices. You can give discounts but raising prices people complain

You never want to be "that" guy that was the cheapest rate. Simply because they didn't charge correctly (newbies mistake- to take any job and under quote) as Dan said hard to increase the price cause you didn't know or were too eager and took the sale with no profit.
Yes I never want to be the cheapest or try to get jobs by being super low. Made that mistake when i started out as well. But trying to help out a family member out at the same time not take a loss.
You might have mentioned that up front. For family the most you are using is $5 in thread and backing - so now add based on whether - 1, 2, 3rd cuz - kissing cuz, beat you up when you were younger, gave you your first drink - if non of the above - $80
Yeah ended up being $65. Helping a family help his club. Its not exactly for him. I know it will pay off sooner or later though. Didn't want to mention family or friend just wanted to see what everybody thought was a fare price.

Thanks everybody.
we have a single head but are in the purchase process for a 6 head.
