I'm looking for a cheap heat press.

Bought one yesterday from LoveCut but after reading a lot of stuff on here (unfortunately after buying it :() I'm sending it back. Wish me luck on getting my refund!

The thing is, I would only use a press occasionally so really can't justify spending a lot at the moment. My budget really isn't much more than £200.

I'm looking at Ebay but again, after reading a lot of stuff on here, that's making me nervous too. Should I just resign myself to not being able to get something worthwhile with such a small budget?

Thanks,
Sue

Honestly, don't bother with a cheap new one, the words cheap and good NEVER go together, look out for a second hand Xpres or Magictouch press on Ebay, but the press is the cheap part of the package, if you haven't got a decent plotter/cutter and design package, you are going to struggle to compete in the marketplace, you should be budgeting around 4k to get started on a good level, just passing on my experience over the last 5 years.

Hi,

Permission to slightly disagree with Xpert Apparel UK?

£4k to get started is a tad steep especially as Sooty says he will only be using press occasionally.

When I first started the heatpress (I mainly do screenprinting, can't help loving it!) I started with one on ebay at £200 and would not recommend it. It was great for learning but decided to cut out within a year and really was not worth any effort with regard to refund etc (after I had threads on here!)

I went on to purchase new heatpress from Target £700. I know that is also out of your budget range Sooty but they do also hire them out so you do not have any worries. Cannot remember all the details but certainly worth you going and having a look on their website.

Good luck.

Renting is a good option if you can't afford to buy decent equipment but you got to make sure you have the work to pay for it. I started the cheap way and was lucky, some have lost a lot of money/time on cheaper equipment thats not up to the job.

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

For now, I have decided to keep the press I have and see what happens. I must admit that I am one of these enthusiastic types that has lots of grand ideas but then it comes to nothing. My fabric painting is what I love to do so the press would be something I would use alongside it.

If I discover that this becomes a bigger thing for me, I will have to start saving some pennies and get a decent more expensive one.

Sometimes I really wish money wasn't such a barrier!

Hi

I bought a 2nd heat press for home. I have one at my unit from xpress which has never let me down. The 2nd cost £250 new off ebay. I mainly heat press vinyl. The 2nd heat press does not fix the vinyl properly causing it to peel off this is not too bad if you are doing stag or hen nitht t-shirts as it will probably last 1 night, but if you are doing printing for clubs etc, then it could cause you problems. Not tried it for subli printing. I looked into hiring a 2nd one from Target Transfers but they had none available, but they did put me on the waiting list.
