is inkjet printing best way to go for me?

Hi, this is my first post. I've been painting children's shirts by hand for more than two years now. This is what I love doing but it's very time consuming. I'm looking into having my unique designs printed on shirts. I visited several screen printers and did not like the limitations of 4-6 color process, neither did I like the feel of the screen printed shirts. I have made numerous phone calls and best to my knowledge there is only one ink jet printer who would print on tees for me in my area (Nashville-Hendersonville, Tn). She showed me her sample shirt and I liked it. If I provide the shirts she will charge $5 per shirt to print. Is this reasonable? Like I said earlier I was unable to find another printer like her to compare the price.
Am I doing the right thing going with the DTG? In children's shirts I am looking for no color limitation, bright colors. Someone here mentioned that these shirts fade after 15 washes. Is this right?
Also, I am looking into purchasing 5.5 and 5.8 oz Rabbit Skin shirts from shirsupplier.com . Is it too thin for inkjet printing?
Thank you

Nah this is good oz shirt to print on and her price sounds very reasonable.
DTG is gonna be your best bet and ya it will last many washes :)
Price is very cheap go for it. She wont be making much profit on that if she takes labour, ink and Maintenece, rent electricty etc into account.
Thank you so much to both. Your input is priceless to me. I know a little bit about painting by hand but nothing about printing. This website will be very helpful to me in the future. I'm sure I'll have many more questions.:)
No problem and good luck with your venture
DTG printing is pretty kool thing and I learned about it last year in trade show and had to have a machine when saw it in action.

Did you buy your dtg machine at a tradeshow? Which machine did you buy?

I'm shoping for a dtg and I plan on going to long beach ISS
DTG prints on white hold up very well- we have shirts washed far more than 15 times that still look good. But the brand of inks, the cure process, and the brand of shirts make a difference. That is a good price- pay to print a few- wash them - and see for yourself what you like before ordering a large quantity.
