Hi, new to this.
In the planning stage at the minute, trying to find best way to print clothing

I am hoping to be able to print on demand. I would like to be able to print small amounts when needed rather than getting 1000 t shirts and then trying to flog them.

I am also wanting to be able to create t shirts for local bands who might only need small amounts.

Would dtg be best for this? And is this a good approach to take?

I'd answer that with a solid: maybe.

Are you looking to produce the shirts yourself? DTG is great for short runs with lots of colors. Downside is it is a very expensive technology to start with, so you have to have a good feel that you will have a lot of business. It also works the best when it is run daily. Down time can cause issues like clogging and other problems.

If your designs are limited numbers of colors, screen printing is not a bad option. You can get in for much cheaper. 90% of the stuff I do for bands ends up being a white print on a black shirt. For that, most of the time I feel screen-printing is a better and cheaper option, even for quantities around a dozen.

The other option is to subcontract out the printing. In that case, you don't have to worry about it as much. Some printers have both types of printing, and they can decide the best application on a case by case basis, or you can get quotes for both types on a case by case basis, and decide then.

Good luck!

I am planning on printing myself but to start I think it would be best to use another company to print. Would be much cheaper to test the waters and see whether my idea, vision, designs etc are as good as i hope.

Yeh i agree, alot of band shirts will either be black shirt white design or vice versa.

i got a email today off a friend who asked hpw much itd be to print 20 shirts, 10 black 10 white. I imagine these are the sort of orders small bands want

that is a good way to look at it.

I'm trying to find a few printers at the minute and get some quotes. Looks like alot of them do screen printing or they say DTG is great for small runs but then some are charging around £10 a t-shirt.
I just need all the info I can get before I take the plunge.

Due to my tenancy agreement I can not register a business at my home address so once I go for it I will need to rent a unit or office to operate out of and that is where the expense will start mounting up.

Make sure to do as much research and investigating as you can.
I have just contacted a printer I have found online. No min order which is good, prices seem potentially good although it states it's best to get a quote.
Just e-mailed regarding a 2 colour t-shirt, small orange picture at top with white text on a black t-shirt.

According to website their price list states it would be £10 for screen set up and £1.55 per t-shirt for printing.
Does this seem good to you guys?
Reckon that would include the t-shirt itself or would that be an extra cost?
