I think Cafe Press could be a set up. This is why: Think about it. Cafe Press is getting constant free designs shared on there. All the customer has to do is copy your design or quotes and make the design themselves and get Cafe Press to send it to them cheap. They would get the T-shirt way cheaper by bypassing us designers. Cafe Press is making a fortune on selling t-shirts with free designers supplying them with designs. What are ya'll take on that? It is possible since customers are encouraged to make their own designs-they can personalize it also. Who would know if the customer bypassed paying us for the idea-and took the idea from us and just paid cafe press? Cafe Press does not have the motivation to tell the truth. As far as a few people saying they make money-who knows-it could be them posting false statements about their "sales" to get more people to make designs for them to get rich.

As far as the few people that say they made a little bit, who's to say that isn't them doing that to encourage people to keep sending free designs? And, besides designers, we are also free promoters! We advertise for them for free! I think the only company I'd send my designs to are ones where the customer can't create their own designs. But, then again, nothing is stopping a customer from copying anything online to use to make a cheap shirt with Cafe Press or another co.

If you submit something to Cafe Press, they still go through the process of identifying the art to the best of their ability and they will reject copyrighted material. If there is prior art, if it is brought to their attention, I wouldn't know the process, but I'm sure things would get pulled.

So, you mean they have a data base of all our designs that are sift through to make sure a customer is not stealing our designs? In that case we'd have to trust Cafe Press or whatever other co. Because I will never know if someone in a different state would be wearing my designs? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm needing to know. I'm not ranting-more questioning.

I would say they most likely don't scan the other stores, but if it was brought up that your designs were being used, they would be able to determine whose was on there first. It's something you should email Cafe Press about and determine their policies. I know they will reject known copyrighted materials, but to protect all artwork would be tough. Copyright infringement is most likely one of the biggest problems to deal with when online companies are printing other artwork not their own. They could get in serious trouble, so they try to make sure they are doing the best they can in protecting other's art.

Honestly I think Cafepress is crappy for shirt designers unless you are the type that makes designs left and right and throws it against the wall to see what sticks. I had one design that sold very well and peaked at a couple hundred bucks a month and suddenly ... nothing, and I've never sold another since. It does make me suspicious because sales ended abruptly, no trailing off, just done. There were others who came up with vaguely similar designs but they were different enough that I didn't raise a fuss, mine was much better. Now I have a different design that sat on there for years without a sale and suddenly took off. I'll probably just pull all of them soon. I would make more money with my own site even if I only got a fraction of the sales I get on Cafepress.

Tlhanks for understanding that this is an honest concern. I just want to know the truth and not waist my time or anyone elses. That's what I was thinking-I'd probably make more on my own website and make the t-shirts myself. It's good that we are able to talk about this.

You people must be in on it too or you wouldn't be this upset. I just pulled up a famous Marilyn Monroe picture to act like a customer ordering a shirt. I added some stars-Cafe Press has been e-mailing me to encourage me to finish the buying process. It did not write to me saying I had copy right material at all.

This isn't proof0-it's just pure common sense. And, if this is the case, I would be very angry and others too. Somebody would be in hot water buddy.
