inkjet heat transfers: which kind of ink I should buy in place of the Epson factory ink

2530 Views 17 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  lben
Going to switch to a bulk system to print transfers but not looking to switch to dye sub, going to print on 50/50 shirts.
Can someone tell me which kind of ink I should buy in place of the Epson factory in and should what ever ink I buy should it be OEM ink.
Also how much money do you need to spend on a bulk system ? I have looked at so many different systems and they all promise to be the best. Also the state the chip is installed,I figure thats to tell the printer the ink is installed.
Thanks to all of you for sharing and all the great advice you share.

Re: Transfer Ink

The easiest way to do a bulk system is to buy refillable carts and bottles of ink and just refill them as needed. You can get both from cobraink.com. They also have a CISS for I think just the workforce 1100. What you need is pigment ink. They have bulk systems for a lot of the epson printers. I have them for my C88+, 1100, and 1400.

Re: Transfer Ink

Thanks so much Dan for taking the time to help me out,I really appreciate it !!
Re: Transfer Ink

Dan do you print shirt transfers too ? If so what is your favorite paper.I was also looking into canvas and just order paper InkJet waterslide paper to give that a try to put photos on candles so I will see if that product works, looks really neat.Trying to find where I can buy the waterslide paper direct instead of buying 10 sheets at a time of eBay
Re: Transfer Ink

Not sure who Dan is. I do all kinds of printing: sublimation, crystal imprints, heat transfers, vinyl transfers, foil transfers, screen printing, and rhinestones. I have no idea what waterslide paper is. I've never heard of it before. I didn't know you could put photos on candles either. I know they have edible ink that you can print on special paper and put on top of cakes.

Sorry Loretta, for calling you the wrong name.I bought Waterslide paper off ebay, you use a inkjet printer soak the cutout in water then slide the transfer off on to a candle, you can use it for other thing but that is what I'm usuing it for.
Thank You Very Much for All Your Help
Jim
Re: Transfer Ink

I've never heard of that before. Waterslide. Do you have to cut the transfer out first?
Re: Transfer Ink

Yes you cut it out soak it and it slides of the transfer paper, here is the link to what I bought. If it works would like to find a direct supplier.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Re: Transfer Ink

I found some and it's still very expensive, plus it isn't just the film, you have to have adhesive with it and something else to dry the ink... any how here is the link to my google search.

Re: Transfer Ink

There is another video on You Tube if you want me to send it to you that shows a lady that takes a photo with a inkjet and then wraps Reynolds Wax Paper around the photo and takes a heat gun and basiclly melts the wax from the wax paper over the photo to attach the photo.I thought it was pretty cool but I haven't tried it yet.I'm going to try both and see what looks and works better.I like to make different things like the photo on the candle.

I don't know what printer you use but I have the Espon R1800 and I want a bulk ink system but not sure what kind of ink to buy or which bulk system to buy, everyone tells me something different than the last person. I don't need dye Sub because thats to expensive and the shirts coast way to much even tho the ink soaks into the material people don't want to pay the price. If I need something in bulk I use Transfer Express.
I'm so happ to meet you and can't Thank You enough for helping me.I'm disabilied now and trying to find something I can do at home before I go crazy,I use to have a business and took photos of youth football and other sports teams.I had a doctor do a very bad hip surgery on me which caused me to be disabled and I had back surgery 5 months ago so you see why I'm trying to find things to do.

We're in the same boat. I used to be a registered nurse, but am now disabled. I don't know how anyone can survive on the tidbits they allow for disability. That's why I'm trying to do this.

I have Epson C88+, workforce 1100, and 1400. That waterslide paper comes in clear and white. Interesting stuff. Every day I learn something new.

Anything you can teach each other would be great.Sorry to hear you are in the same boat but God never gives us more than he knows we can handel. You also do tee shirt transfer toright ? What kind of ink do you use ? Going to look at the workhorse bulk system, that one seemd to get the most votes so I'm going to oder that system.

Been watching a lot of You Tube trying to learn different things and get new ideas. The only thing I can't do is build a website so God willing something will happen by his Grace and it will come when the timeing is right. Thanks Again and been a pleasure meeting you

I started about 4 years ago collecting equipment, software, and supplies because I knew my back wasn't going to hold out forever. I opted out of the bulk ciss systems because of problems others have with them and just went with the refillable carts and bulk ink. It's less hassle and more cost effective.

Anyhow I don't do very many heat transfers. I just didn't care for the way they feel on a shirt. But they do have their place. I branched out into several areas of printing just to be able to do a variety of things and because I can't decide what I want to be when I grow up!
I had hip surgery and I have a bad back too.My L1,L2,L3,L4,L5 are all bad,I had a spinal implant or it's called a spinal stimulator which helps with the pain a long with my pain pills and nerve blockers so I feel your pain.

What kind of printers do you use ? My biggest problem is trying to learn to design,so far I'm not doing well with that at all.I have trouble trying to learn Photoshop and without that you have no designs.

What software do you use ? I looked at your site you have a ton of things,do you print all of it yourself ?

The products offered on my website are all printed by others. I haven't added the stuff to this website that I do here at home. I just got this new website up and running a couple of weeks ago. It took me a month to put it together.

I have arthritis of the spine near the sacroiliac joint so my sciatic nerve is pinched in both legs. I get the spasms so bad sometimes I can barely breathe.

I have several printers. All epsons. I have a C88+ and a workforce 1100 for sublimation, a workforce 1100 for regular heat transfers and printing, and a 1400 for printing the films for screen printing. I use CorelDRAW. I just upgraded to X6 but it hasn't arrived yet. There are a ton of video tutorials out there on CD and that helps a lot when trying to learn something. I'm not a designer but because it's been so easy to learn I've been able to do what I need to do. If you go to advancedtshirts.com you can also get plugin programs for coreldraw that will make designing a whole lot easier.

I too have arthritis in L1-L5 and it hurts 24/7 I have been on 80mg of Oxy for 3 years and I see my Pain Management doctor Friday and I need stronger meds because they have stopped working. The Spinal Stimulator on have on most of the time for pain.I had all the tissue removed from my hip so I'm a mess !! So I feel your pain and hope that God will both help us each day to be positive and to deal with our pain each day.
Thanks Again for Everything
I take tylenol and aspirin or ibuprofen or naprosen. No narcotics. All they do is mask the pain. At least the NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) actually do something. You need to get off the narcotics. They don't work because your body is addicted to the medication and like any addiction once the body reaches a certain level of tolerance it no longer works and dosage has to be increased. Narcotics shut down your respiratory system and your digestive system.

Back pain is the worst. I can tell days in advance when we are going to get storms. I've never known anyone who had back surgery to be happy afterwards which is why I just won't do it. Have you tried skelaxin, robaxin, or flexeril? They would be better for you and would relax your back muscles. I used to take skelaxin but no longer have health insurance and I can't afford it.

I'm sure your docs know what's best but sometimes they hand out dangerous narcotics like candy.
