So over the weekend I was checking the ink cartridge levels- my cartridges last time were not clear so I could not see-- I pulled them all and everything was normal until I got to my black cartridge- as I pulled it out it just poured ink everywhere to the tune of about 1/3 of the cartridge all over me the floor and anything else nearby-- I immediately turned it upright and cleaned it off - but now this week I am having trouble with no black ink, I had a backup cartridge that I have inserted, I am just hoping that is the only problem.

Anyone else have this happen, ink is just too expensive to have this happen, I have gotten bad cartridges in the past ( 2 times in the last 2 months) with bad chips that would not read or reset, luckily I kept the old cartridge empties,, but nothing like this massive ink spill, is the cartridge toast when this happens?

I've never pulled them out to check the levels. Usually the Printer Utility displays your ink levels.
The printer utility cannot read the actual levels of ink in the carts, as it is expecting the OEM Epson ink cartridges (which are in fact much smaller). The Epson will "think" the cartridges are empty long before you actually run out of ink, requiring you to "trick" the machine into thinking you are putting in brand new cartridges - this is what you are doing when you resent the ink chip on the side of the cartridge, with that little blue or white device that came with your printer.

The only way to know exactly how much ink is left in the carts is to pull them out and take a look, or use clear carts and bags!

Was the ink pouring from the little plastic nub that is attached to the bag, or was there some sort of tear in the bag? I am wondering if there is something going on with the needle that enters the cartridge when you plug it into the slot, since I would imagine the ink should have leaked before you plugged it in if the cartridge was already damaged? If the cartridge didn't leak prior to putting it in, but it spilled out everywhere when you pulled it out, maybe something is cracked or broken inside where you plug in the cart and it is rupturing the bag or violating the integrity of the cartridge, somehow?

I am just brainstorming, here - you might have already looked into that. Anyways, pictures never hurt, either!

Peter, can anyone use that code for a discount? hahahha :p

Sorry to hear that you lost some ink. I hate losing ink...
But as it has been my experience, AA is there to help.

As for the leaking cartridge, where did it leak?

One time during shipping, the black ink bursted open. AA sent me a new one. I tried to salvage what was left of the damaged cartridge, but there was dried ink every where and I didn't want it to clog up the head. So, I threw the damaged cartridge away.... =\

Well I wish I had pictures, but after I pulled the cartridge to fold up the bag inside -half the ink was on me the floor and everything else before I knew what was going on-- I tried to use the cartridge on sunday and monday and had continued problems getting black ink- so it sounds like a seal issue- I put a new black cartridge in it has still been a challenge to get black consistently, i did several f2 cleanings and a couple f3 and still no ink on black, the only was I have been able to get black the last 2 days is to run an f4 before printing.

A few months ago I white do the same thing, I took it out to gently roll it and it threw ink everywhere and you could not roll the bag without ink pouring out of it. so thats 2 cartridges out of about 12 this year with a problem, I also had a cartridge that would not read, and the chip would not reset, luckily I had an emty to swap the bags so I could use the ink.

Along the cleaning lines - at what point are you better off doing an f4, how many f1, f2 or f3 cleanings would it take to use the same amount of ink as an f4?

I always try the lower cleanings- but they rarely do any good, and sometimes make it worse.

Discountshirts James,
It seems more issues to you than average NeoFamily have. You are extremely unlucky or something is wrong. Yes we did exprienced Bag problems here and there. I hate we cannot control Chinese bag quality. However we are testing (severe shake, self shipping by ups, air blowing, over fill etc) much as we can but there are few defect bags and bad batch. However we never once refuse replace NeoFamily's loss by mistake or unfortunate. Either truth or not. We just believe our family. If you believe there was loss occurred by product we sold just claim to AA. We will replace with our sincere apology. I am sorry we cause you inconvenient.
Pls shake gently not up and down side way and flip. every other day will do it. Put back cart level. Close lever all the way. Put cart all the way far as you can. Too much force no good and less too. Chip resetting, pls make sure all needles are lined up with chips sometimes chip moves. Confirm chip location with others. I hope someone will find your issue. I will discuss with Tigers tomorrow.
Cheers! Beers are on me always.
