Hey,

I am thinking about swapping heat transfer for screen printing but have received some mixed messages about the costs.

Is there usually an initial 'start-up' cost for whatever company you use to make the individual screens for each colour or is this included in the price you pay per printed item?

What is the usual course of events/costs from approaching a screen printing company until the delivery of finished garments?

You could go two directions.

1. Purchase plastisol transfers. These can be applied with the heat press you currently have. The prices are usually quoted per transfer. The cost of the screens are built into this price.

2. Direct screen printing. Depends on the printer but some quote a separate screen charge per color and other build it in like the plastisol transfer printers.

Either way though, you are paying for screen charges (anywhere from $10 to $25 per color with $15 being the average).

To get a quote from screen printers you just need to show them your artwork, tell them how many shirts you want and in what colors.

Since you are not her in the US, You need to find at LEAST 4 screen printers and ask them the same questions to see what is included and any extra fee that might be incured.I would also name another printer that you have(or would be) talked to about your job,this puts the printer on their "p's and q's" to let them know that in order to get your business everything must be upfront and you should feel comfortable with whoever you choose.Hope this helps.Aslo ask how many colors do they do,some may do only 4 some 6.how do the take the payments? 1/2 upfront balance when finished? how long for the job to be finished? when can the "trial shirt' be seen?

Any ideas about general 'good prices' for printing (per garment) might be useful to get a flavour of the costs.

Anyone had any real problems dealing with screenprinters?
