What do you expect from few bucks therm gun? Laboratory readings? :D

Use the gun just to see if you have cold spots on heat press and that's it.

On a serious note, I just measured my hand. with it. It's 92 fahrenheit. I know this is not for body temperature measurements, but I am still interested how much your gun shows on your hand :)

The coating on some heat presses can give an inaccurate reading on infrared heat guns - To make sure it's running at the temperature stated on the display, you could try temperature strips.

They're available from several suppliers, including Stahls:

If I kept count correctly, three options were provided to check the heat accuracy of the heat press. I have a Digital Knight K20S 16x20 that has been in storage for about 10 years.

How often should you check for heat accuracy - on a regular basis or just when the quality of work is declining? Considering the heat strips looks like they use 5 strips at a time at $15 for 10 strips it would appear that going all out on the $85 gadget would be more cost efficient.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about with starting up my heat press after being kept in storage for 10 years?

Thank you in advance for any advice on this matter.

I am checking each time after we make pizza in my heat press, when we have a party. I also checked one week ago after we had BBQ and we did sausages in my heat press -.-

I doubt anybody makes regular checks... I assume people check if they have cold spots on their platen when they buy heat press and they check if they notice that something very fishy is going on. Like design is starting to break or something.

If you ask me I would rather spend 85 bucks instead of strips, but I am not objective. I love those electronic gadgets :D

I would also assume 85 bucks gadget is more precise then strips, but how much precise do you need in reality? Ussualy people do it by their feeling and wash testing.

But the real question which I am asking myself is what is the difference between that 2 bucks and 85 bucks gadget...

i'm guessing 'stick your hand on it and try to count to three' is no longer an acceptable method?
If you would try it and let us know :D be an interesting experiment. I burn my arms enough as it is
