Hi everone I am in the market for a new printer and I would like to know what is a good entry level printer. I just bought a Maxx heat press from Stahls after doing a lot of research and found it to be a quality press and very happy with it. I know vinyl transfering has its limits and would like to transfer graphics with a lot of color from time to time. My wife is looking to get a printer thats about 800 dollars and would get it if it does what I am asking. The printer she wants is a laser printer that goes by the name of a Samsung clx6250fx. I've been doing some research on this paper transfering method and found it to be more complicated because of the different types of inks used and many printer brands available. If any one can help with a simplfied explanation and maybe pictures with the final result that would great and much appreciated. If you guys are wondering why we are looking at a 800 dollar printer is because we run a small business printing flyers and other types of material:)

For just transferring graphics all you need is a desktop inkjet printer that uses pigment ink. And you can get one of those for less than $200. Even though it has been discontinued I recommend an Epson workforce 1100. You can get refillable ink carts and bulk pigment ink from cobra ink. There are also special papers you can get for laser printers though that allow you to heat transfer onto dark fabrics without weeding. So each has it's pros and cons.

I don't know of any links that have that information on them. Most of the printers here who do heat transfers use JPSS (Jet Pro Soft Stretch) paper. Most of the vendors on the left sell that kind of paper.

One thing you cannot do with heat press transfers is press on dark fabrics. These are primarily for white shirts. Dark shirts require a different kind of paper and most people aren't happy with the results. It is thick and has to be cut. Now there is one that is self weeding but it is only for laser printers and then only certain printers will work. I guess some get too hot or something.
