I am trying to edit a low resolution image to just black and white, not gray scale, and am having a difficult time. I attached the image, and I am needing the shorts to be black or white and the guy's skin to be white so i can print the image in just black on a gray shirt. I have Adobe Illustrator CC. Anyone know where to begin? Thanks so much!

Well I am gonna be honest. :)

I noticed on this blog:
https://blogagility.com/2017/09/11/support-the-blog-new-t-shirts/#more-2648

that blogger wanna sell t-shirts. So lets say you just would like to do the job for which the blogger will pay you.

But here is the catch. How come he doesn't have a vector for that character? :) Should I take a wild guess? :)

So even if I know how to do it, it is against the rules to help anybody with : how to hack others people work, so I can have something from it.

The funny part is, that this area is kinda messed up. We got for example few very knowledgeable members on this forum, which are against hacking other people work unless it's for a "good cause"...

But bottom line is hacking other people work is hacking and good or bad cause doesn't change anything. It is still hacking.( I used word hacking so I don't sound rude).

So if I would like to give you idea how to solve your problem and everyone will be happy I would suggest this: Send pm to original creator of that character, send him few bucks for 6pack of guiness and you will not have any more problems. You will get what you need from creator of that character.

Actually, let the blogger send 6 pack for that character. After all, it is his blog.

So to answer your question where should you begin? Tell blogger to pay six pack on paypal of the artist which created that character.

I would bring it into Photoshop first and increase the resolution to 300 before vector tracing it. I think I'd need to do a few more things also. Convert it to grayscale then separate the pure black out from the other colors. Then vector trace that in Illustrator. It'll trace nicely with no adjustments. Then just add in the color wherever you want it. Pants, face, etc. It's gonna take some basic Photoshop and Illustrator skills though. If you don't have those skills, then probably you should farm it out to someone who can knock it out.

You should consider doing a redraw of it or get the original artist's permission to use it.
Or get your client to do so.

There is a way to redraw it pretty easily in PS. Use stroke paths, on a separate layer, then when it's finished delete the original.

Depending upon the resolution of the original, you might be happier if you trace it from scratch, but if you want to work with this graphic you can use masking/ tone curve in Photoshop or Gimp (I used Corel PhotoPaint for this...) to achieve the color effect, then convert to a monochrome and auto trace it. Once it's a vector you can clean it up as you please.
