I took my grandkids' team pics and put them on a key chain for them. I took the same images and transferred them onto double sided round tags. One child for each side. I made these for us grandparents & parents for our keychains.

One side came out perfect, but when I tried to do the other side, the images came out perfectly but there are marks from the tape clearly visible on each of them. And no, the tape did not come into physical contact with the substrate, it was on the other side of the paper holding the transfer in place for pressing!

The only difference I can see is that the side that messed up has a thinner poly coating (about half the thickness), but still the tape didn't touch it and yet the image of the tape is clearly visible and won't come off. I take that back, on closer look a couple of the thicker sides have tape images on them too. Like a sticky residue, but it's not sticky and it won't come off.

Anyone have any idea of what went wrong? 375 degrees F, 1 min 20 sec, medium pressure.

Thanks Will & Kevin,

I called Paramount and talked to Don and he said the same thing about the tape making it cooler in one spot. Oh well, live and learn. At least now I know what not to do if I ever get any customers that will actually pay me for my stuff! Next time I will be more careful not to let the tape touch my tags. Thanks for the advice.

I'd rather make my mistakes on my practice things. Will, do you really think the time is too long? I'm going by the pressing instructions from Paramount which is where I bought them. I'll have to get some more and try it with less time. But I do press several of them at a time.

Hi Loretta. I press a lot of double sided items during the week and at 50-60 seconds cook time at 375F, they come out perfectly everytime, with no marks from heat tape anywhere.

I will have to try that time and see if I get better or the same results. It doesn't make much sense to waste money on electricity if I don't have to. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had called Don right after I posted the original question. I'm sure the man thinks I'm an idiot. When I did my first stainless steel travel mug I burned the finish on it. For some reason it never dawned on me that stainless would heat up faster than ceramic! Duh! I cook those in the oven now with wraps rather than my mug press.

I wonder if I could re-press them with just a plain piece of transfer paper to get the marks to disappear. They're garbage anyhow, so maybe I'll try that and see what happens. With my luck I'll lose the image completely.
