Hi all, got an Epson 7610 here.

Main question: Can you suggest a pigment ink for T-shirts and Posters/Photos (not Cobra Ink), or possibly a dye ink that you know works with T-shirt transfers like 3G Opaque or Ironall. The dye ink I used earlier did work, no bleeding during wash and the fade months later was about the same as I got from Cobra's pigments (not very much, it's really quite good).

For my original printer, I used Cobra's pigments straight away and the yellow ends up clogging to death. No shop could fix it, so went with a replacement.

For the next printer, I went with the CIS from ebay, prefilled with dye (claimed to be UV protective). I didn't like this ink much, the images had a strange purple tint, especially on dark images. I'm not sure if it was because of the UV element in it, or if that's just the nature with dye inks. For t-shirts, it worked wonders. Very impressed with it... but I ran out and couldn't locate a suitable refill. Might as well flush and go with Cobra again. Got some new bottles. Images came out beautiful, no purple tint, but once again yellow clogged and would not unclog even after 20 head cleanings and solutions... (this after about 2 weeks of consistent use).

Got a new replacement now, this time I'm swearing off Cobra. What should I do at this point? I don't want to get clogged yellow again, I'm 1000% certain it will clog again if I hook that CIS in.. so I'm gonna buy a new empty one, so please suggest a good ink you know won't give me too much of an issue.

Some side notes: I find clogged dye flushes easier than clogged pigment. The dye becomes like a jelly, dissolves quick and is ready to go. Pigment is like trying to weather down rocks... so I think I would prefer a suggested dye that someone on this forum swears by ;) Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Dye inks fade and can bleed in the wash. Pigment inks do not. :)

While it is true that dyes are less likely to give you nozzle problems and when they do they are easier to clear, however, the very reason that dyes can "flush" easier is that dyes are always water soluble, that means that washing them they are also water soluble. Pigments are micro small solid particles and are not water soluble.

So "it is what is is".

BTW, CIS poor vacuum can cause "clogging". Not really a clog but the end results look the same, ink doesn't get delivered. Doubt very much your yellow was at fault.

Why not try refillable carts?

Hi all, thanks. Do you think I should try again with the cobra pigment? I already initialized the carts from Epson to get the printer running. On youtube, some mentioned flushing the ink first, then putting the the CISS 3rd party ink, others say don't flush and just use until the new ink makes its way through. What's the correct way? Also if I am supposed to flush, which solution should I use?

If just adding carts there is no need to flush, once the carts are recognized the printers firmware will do a head clean and "charge" the inks. There are no ink lines on that printer and during the automatic head clean the old inks are completely displaced and the new inks are in the head.

Only if you change inks in the CIS will you have to flush since it has long ink lines.

inkjetcarts.us is good too

no need to flush (as mgparrish just said)

i personally would go with the re-fillable carts, i've had the cis and now do carts
my 7610 w/cis died, but it did work ok, just temperamental
like you always wondered, is today the day i have to spend a couple hours begging the printer to use it
that may have been a function of the printer though and not the cis
