OK, so I am new to vinyl cutting and I have a laser point from US cutter with sign blazer. I can not figure out how to convert my graphic files, ie..jpeg, bmp etc to vector so they will work with sign blazer. I have even downloaded files that are already in vector format, I keep getting an error message that says it contains a bitmap. I can't get it to cut what I want. please help!!! I am desperate for this freedom!!

A JPEG, BMP, GIF etc is a raster file and constructed of pixels. You need a vector conversion program (trace program). AI. comes with one as well as Corel Draw and I think the free inkscape has trace built in. You can also go online and check out Vector Magic. What art program are you using?
I looked on the sign blazer website and it says you have a vector conversion tool. In elements you can only do black and white. The other two advanced progs. have color ability. You really can get by with black and white as I just convert color to B&W before a vector trace. Take your JPEG and convert to B&W, Use your trace tool to vector trace the pic. The pic needs to be fairly high quality or you will have to do much node editing (cleaning curves and straightening lines) to get a quality cuttable vector.

As a test just create some text or a shape and see if you can cut it with your machine. I think sign blazer also has online help.

well, I have used the trace function in ai, but when I try to open it ignin signblazer a post script iterpretor starts and stops and then there is nothing on the screen. I dont understand what I am doing wrong. I have ps, ai, corel, inkscape and am looking into getting flexisign. I am not sure if its something I am doing wrong or if the signblaser program isnt working right. thanks for your reply and I welcome any suggestions.
save your money...don't buy new software just yet... go to Vector Magic | Precision Bitmap to Vector Conversion Online They do charge but I think it is only $7.50 or so a month...BUT you can do a test conversion first to see how it would look...you just can't down load it if you have not paid. OR do a search here and find someone to do it for you...

Not sure about Sign Blazer, I know Cut Studio from Roland has problems depending on which version of AI you save the vector file as. Maybe try saving it as an older AI version before you import it?

thanks for the replies, it is much appreciated. I tried saving it with an older version of ai and it works perfect. I guess sign blazer does not recognize ai 10 and above. this is definately something they need to work on!! thanks for the help!!
i save everthing as an eps and it can open in all our programs no prob. I find flexisign to be over priced and stubborn..I wouldnt buy it again unless maybr for a digital printer

Good that you got your fix. time to make some cash.
I do 90% of our design work in Flexi...super simple and a time saver.
Glad to be able to help! Good luck!
I save all graphics to Tif files then import in to Inkscape ( which is FREE) and trace (save as .PS) and then load into "Plans" and cut.
