What we have had the most success with are facebook ads and Twitter. We had a $50 add and got around 110 likes out of it. I would say set up a twitter for sure because that is the other big thing going on right now. Follow things/people that pertain to your brand, put out some solid tweets and followers will come. Those two are very common, basic ways of marketing, but in my opinion are pretty effective too

The concept of marketing is pretty simple:
- Find out the type of human that will want to buy your t-shirts (is it an emo, a goth, a head banger, a jock, a techa etc)
- Find a way to reach that market as many times and as cost effectively as possible.

It doesn't matter how many visits you get, you could get 100 hits a day and never make a sale. On the other hand you could get 20 hits a day from your target market and still make lots of sales. If you don't know where your market is, find out.

Also, don't put your eggs in the one basket, try multiple approaches concurrently. A person may see your brand and not buy immediately. But after they've seen your brand 10 times they may only then decide to buy.

When you're starting out you will find most of your sales come from friends. So use a tactic I like to call relationship marketing. It's pretty simple, make friends with as many people as you can, whether it be through this forum, through social media, or at a nightclub. 90% of my sales come from people I have built a relationship with. Some of which I have never even met in person. People are more likely to buy from someone they trust. Build that trust and it can be mutually beneficial for both parties.

That's marketing 101 in a nutshell :) I have more where that came from so if you want to discuss further just hit me up.

Jason S

Wearelove it right on target. Regular advertising takes all your money away from your business. Word of mouth, building relationships, people knowing you, liking you, your name comes to their mind right away.
You have what they want, they like dealing with and trust you. Get involved, volunteer, etc. It actually is simple as that. And what a fun way to get the word out of what you do!!. When I had my Gallery/studio/imprinting store in Pittsburgh I did all sorts of advertising sold to me. What a waste of my limited money. But I myself and my work, brought people from all over came to get their pets photographed at my store. Our community of shop owners each Christmas got together and we had a big event end of December. That really brought people in, and the orders were made. I would work right up to Christmas eve. Ok, that part was not fun. Good luck!

You have posed a BIG question and there is a lot to it.

Boiling it down what you have to decide is..

What size you want your business to be?
Who do you want to be your customers?

After you answer those 2 questions then the hard work starts. Market research, messaging, mediums to reach market, lead generation tactics and strategy are the beginning of the road.

One last thing, don't short change your marketing effort either monetarily or staffing. If you don't have the money for certain types of strategies that's fine you can always go another route. Just avoid the appearance of being CHEAP.

Staffing wise don't fall into the rut that YOU as owner HAVE to be the star salesperson. some people just aren't cut out for sales. Be smart enough to recognized when help is needed.

If you want to discuss further let me know.
