I used to do sublimation several years ago. When I began, I bought most of my paper from Conde. However, found that I could use Epson Matte Photo Paper with the same results. I haven't done any sublimation in a while so I'm not even sure if they still sell Epson Matte Photo Paper. If you do find it in an office supply store (like Office Max or Office Depot), remember to get the Matte not Glossy. The matte is very thin and holds the ink real well. Good luck!
From what i have learned since doing sublimation is that you must use a special sublimation ink, as well as sublimation transfer paper. I have not been doing sublimation for long so i can not comment on tips or tricks like using regular matte paper but check out this website on the topic.

What is Dye Sublimation & Why Do I Need It?

Also, go to the main page and scroll down to the dye sublimation area and search the topic you are looking for. You will be able to find tons of answers to your questions.

Hope this helps,

In a pinch you can use matte coated paper from the Office Supply store. HOWEVER...not all matte coated papers release the ink well. I remember from my testing that the Original Epson Matte paper does also work well.
When you say you have a sublimation printer....do you mean you have an Epson with sublimation ink? if so you will need sublimation paper to get good consistent results.
If you want to do sublimation , yes...you will need not only a sublimation printer such as the Espon 1400 or C120. But, you will also need sublimation inks..ie, ArTainium inks and sublimation paper. Heat Transfer paper and sublimation paper are two different animals.

Do you have an inkjet printer or a dye sublimation photo printer that uses ribbons like the ones below...

Which small dyesub printer do you have? I don't think it is possible to do heat transfers with it. However, if you reply with the make and model, I will research it for you. :)

I got a canon pc740 dye-sub photo printer. uses the same process. so i wanted to test this out so i can start doing transfer on fabrics using sublimation format. ive tried all the t-shirt transfer papers and the results isnt what i like, ive seen some full colour prints that bleed in the fabric leaving a solid finished. ive also done screenprinting but its very limited when u want something for graphical.
Hi BabyDee,

I'd suggest to get hold of Textprint (dye-sublimation paper).
Sorry, I don't know suppliers in NZ, but it should be easy to find in AU.

Good luck!

Ok...here is the printer.

Unforunately, the sublimation dyes are already sublimated once the they are heated by the thermal print head into the base paper.

Conclusion:
This printer will not work for heat transfers of any kind.:(

Your Canon will not work with inkjet sublimation inks. you require an epson printer for this because epson printheads do not use heat in the printing process.

For a quick education go to www.dyesub.org and do some reading.

;'( *cries* not literally but sooking lol.. argh!! ok ill have to sell the canon and get an epson printer. Any suggestions on a cheap epson? and sublimation paper for it. so many things to learn!! lol.
Search www.epson.com and go to the clearance section. Most of the time they are very inexpensive. If they do not have one when you look check back often as they come and go quickly.

Paper like TextPrint and True Pix you can buy in Australia - I'm guessing the postage will be cheaper then from the US.
Check Roxcell and GJS machinery - they also sell Epson printers. Go to Google dot com dot au and search for more dye sublimation products suppliers.
