Hey everyone i'm pretty new to this t-shirt forum but i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best transparency printer is to use or if you can use a normal printer what the best ink to use would be.

Thank you for all your help it is genuinely appreciated.

I love my epson 3000 with FastRIP,

But I just bought a 2200 as well, its pretty fast!

Either way I would recommend both.

Oh Ive used 1520's as well. They're alright, not graet
I use the R1800 by epson...I dont suggest the bulk. I use the cartridge and get30 plus prints at 15-25 per sheet....Ryonett just put a new one out
I've used both the C88 and Epson 1400 with good success. I use the Ryonet R-Film with photo settings and have had no problems with either one.
Epson 1400 all the way - prints upto A3 and for the price is excellent value

Are you using RIP when printing with these printers or regular ink?
I have just used the standard claria dye inks and i am really happy with the results - an opaque crisp print. I have not used it with a RIP yet as i do not have the money to purchase one as of yet.

If you are getting good prints don't buy it... I have the R1800 and I use to print my film and it would be grey and I sometimes would have to use 2-3 screens before I got something decent. Then I got the RIP and it is awsome...again if you dont have to don't. I wish they had the 1400 when I started.
I haven't tried printing halftones as of yet and would love to know if anyone has without the use of a RIP - that would be very interesting!
My shop is a lil different in the since we havent had the need for half tones...I have printed some but not enough to purchase the RIP. I purchased mine because I had to. Worst case for you is to go to kinkos and get a laser film for halftones if that case ever comes about.
thinking of getting an epson 2200 or 3000. i am also getting a dtg hm-1 soon. is the FASTrip program (supplied with the dtg printer) compatible to be used as a rip program with the 3000 or 2200?... or any other epson printer for that matter.
R 1800 with the fastrip works great I use the fast ink and water proof film.

oops, im sorry. the dtg actually comes with Rip Pro for windows. anyone have experience with it, specifically working with epson printers for transparencies.
Dru, do you use a RIP program... I know some of the other guys print with out it. I use one and am kind of jelous that my 1800 would not let me print good prints without it, however I am very happy with my 1800. I have a friend lookjing at the 1400 but didn't want to buy the RIP
I sell Epsons - 4450 FILM is designed for A2 positives, use with a Wasatch RIP. If A3 or A4 is big enough then you can't beat the Canon ix4000/5000 printers for running costs. You can download Ghostscript plus Ghostview and a postscript driver (printer) for halftones. FastRIP doesn't really add anything.

Someone was asking about printing halftones without a RIP. I've done this many times. Just make a different layer for each color in photoshop, and convert each one to black and white using a halftone screen. You have all of the same options that you would if you were printing directly to a postscript printer from photoshop. The only thing you don't have is advanced dot control. Just make sure that you make the export at least 1200 DPI
