I'm pretty new to screen printing and have been using a 81/2X11 HP inkjet printer for my films but I need a bigger printer that can hold larger films. I don't want to spend a fortune but I do want it to print well. Any one have any suggestions? Also the printer I have has been smearing the ink when I print and takes forever to dry what kind of film won't do that. Any help will be great ! I have been looking at a Epson 1400 and 1900 are they go chioces to start with?

With the Epson 1900 you have to use the waterproof films. These work great, cause the ink is immediately dry. Also, I'd suggest a Epson, because they are the most common brand that they write rip programs for......... actually, I don't know of rip programs that are written for other brands,,,maybe the HP ???

I know someone that sends files to the copy store, puts the color seps on photo copy paper, puts films in the copy machine, photo copys the art onto the films , and to make the film 20" -30", he copys everything twice, and the flips the copy on the machine. When he is done he puts it together like a puzzle, taping each film together twice to make it dark enough. LOL!

I have an Epson 1400 and love it. I can print borderless at 13 x 19 which is more than enough for me. The black ink is super opaque.

You can score one refurbished on epson.com for super cheap. That is how I got mine and it has been a work horse for over a year now.

Thank you all for the replies. I will be using it for my screen printing to make films so the blacker the better. As of right now I shouldn't have to do more than 13x19 so the 1400 should be good for what I need right now, Right?:)
