I ordered a selection of women's tees and tanks made by Gilden, Anvil and Bella.
The sizes are so different it boggles the mind.
Bella especially is way off. What they call small, normally my size, wouldn't fit a pet monkey.
My medium friends would have to buy the ones labeled 2XL, can you imagine any woman doing that?
And that's not counting shrinkage.
I like the Bella line, it is the most appropriate for my purpose but I don't know how to get around this. There is nearly 4 inches difference across the front in a Bella small tank and an Anvil small tank.
I will have to send at least half of this order back. I guess I will figure out the few shapes that will work for me eventually but it doesn't really seem like any of them were quite what I had in mind.
What a bummer!

Pam,
Anyone purchasing any tops from a different vendor,
should always dbl. check for the size spec.
most of major companies do show thier body specs on web-site,
if not, you can always request one.
what a bummer but good luck with any future orders!

I have been using multiple vendors for 7 years now and the more "fashionable the line" the more you should be reviewing the spec sheets and ordering size samples if unsure. The Bella, Kavio, American Apparel, etc. lines are junior sizes not adult. The other thing I learned the hard way is that Adult XS is NOT one size larger than junior XL. If you are fitting youth, junior and adult in the same color shirt as a group, be very
careful as you may be very surprised at the way these size groups overlap in different measurements. I use the analogy of when you see a puppy with big paws they have to "grow into." Children somewhat are getting taller as they grow without getting necessarily wider. I hope that makes sense.

Alpha Shirt catalog is know for typos, so call if you are unsure. Reputable companies take the time to answer your questions and you should take advantage of that service.

Good luck to you!

Thank you all for the responses. I didn't see any size specs anywhere when I ordered. I will look more carefully next time.
That's interesting that Bella is making for juniors. But the kids are so size conscious you'd think they would be complaining about having to order bigger sizes than they are used to.
I can see why high style designers like Lauren Moshi have their own tees made for them. The blanks are seductively cheap but they are best for men, I think.

As far as I can tell, high fashion is only for really skinny people. :p At least that is the way manufacturers make the stuff. As mentioned, if it is a fashion line, it will be very small and the ladies line will really be junior sizes. I don't get it either, but that is a fact we have to learn and live with right now in the "fashion" industry.

I used Alternative Apparel and Bare Apparel, which seem to be a little larger than the others mentioned, but I still most likely need to go cut & sew to get the sizing I want for one of my demographics.

Thanks a lot, Ana. On reading the site, they call sizes 1-4 small and 4-6 medium. Are they nuts!! And this was in a blurb about how great their sizing is.
They all look like anorexics in the pictures.
Oh, well, I guess I could always change the tags.
I think I'm going to end up making my own t-shirts at this rate.
