I guess that means I'm on my way! No equipment as of yet, but this evening I finally took the plunge and bought/installed Affinity Designer.

I called them first to see if I could get a deal. No. How 'bout if I buy DrawPlus X8 and you include Affinity Designer for free? Nope. How 'bout if I buy Affinity Designer and you include DrawPlus X8 for free? Nope. Don't even offer X8 any more. Wait, let me check. Nope. If you want either program you pay full price.

So much for my negotiating skills. I just paid full price for it, downloaded it, and wanted to let you guys know before I even launched it for the first time. But I think the going might be a bit slow since I've never used any program anything like this before. I have a lot to learn.

There is always more to learn ... been using Corel since version 3 (no, not X3, just plain old THREE).

Congratulations. I am very happy for you, that you finally took the first step to your next chapter in your life.

off topic: if you can, snatch somewhere the smallest wacom. It is much easier to work, paths are faster to do and drawing is much easier. I use extra large, but i wasted my money. The smallest is perfect.

Ether way, you know all guys from forum wish you good luck on your new adventure. :)

I love affinity Designer. for me, I find it to be a lot easier to learn than adobe illustrator. And a whole lot cheaper. you can't beat $50 for a robust vector based program.

i thought seacookie is going to catch some flak for that

DrivingZiggy,
have fun playing with your new program
i think serif is really user-friendly to get the basics down,
and then add-in the deeper as required

This is so true :D :D :D
Driving one advice before you start so you don't waste your time with designing stuff and at the end realizing you can't use it in print.

Read about resolution, dpi and rgb vs cmyk.

Wacom? All I can find on Google is a pen holder thingie. Is that what you mean?

I'm finding it a challenge to even get started! I look at the videos for beginners, but they seem to be for beginners to Affinity--but not a novice when it comes to other programs. So I joined their forum and hopefully I will be able to get going soon!

Thanks! Learning a lot from this forum and watching videos. Just today a guy was illustrating the difference between .png pixels and vector. Sheesh! When I first got the bug I thought it would be just buy a couple of pieces of equipment and get rich! Whodathunk there was so much to learn?

Wacom Intuos Pro: creative pen tablet | Wacom

I use wacom, doesn't need to be wacom. You got bunch of others on market. Doesn't need to be new. I know people used a lot wacom bamboo which was cheap.

This looks cheap enough:
https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-CTL490...D=411W-0dfSwL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010LHRFYU?psc=1

I don't know what is on a market today, cause my wacom is going strong for 5 years now. But basically tablet for drawing.

But idea is, mouse is a pain to use in design programs... With tablet it's easier, more comfortable and actually enjoyable. It is not only for drawing. You can do lots of stuff with it. For example: mine has touch pad. I navigate in windows with my fingers...

This is great idea. When I started I went with lynda.com tutorials. Did bunch of those for photoshop and illustrator.

Driving, trust me with tablet ;) You will not regret it. In two weeks working with tablet you will feel like at home.

I just found Miguel Boto this morning and finally was able to do something! Thanks for bringing him up. He has helped me to put my design of my company logo onto the screen. I will try to paste it here, but I'm afraid it won't show because it saves in an Affinity Design format. But here goes: Yeah, it gave me "Invalid File." So give me a second to print it, scan it, then paste it.

Okay, so I did that and it didn't work well. I mean, it went in and I tried two different colors (magenta and neon green) but it just kinda blocked out where the layer was. Anyhow, hopefully you can make out "Presteaux! PRINT" when it comes up. I'm open to critiques of the name of my company--although I will be crushed if people don't like it because it took me months to think of it!--and my "logo" which also took a while to think of. Of course, I'm not firm on which fonts. I think a lot of experimentation is forthcoming.

D'oh! No wonder it wouldn't save correctly: I tried to save it as a black and white .pdf! Now, as a color jpeg it finally comes out.

Sometimes, I amaze myself.

Thanks! I feel like I have a lot to learn before getting this wacom. But it does look good!

And, please, call me Ziggy!

i like the name and the logo
good work

just some ideas to consider:
the 't' is a little short on the upper part, lose the exclamation point, make 'presteaux' a little larger,
and maybe try 'print' as a thickish outline instead of a solid fill (may help presteaux stand out more)

edit: forget losing the exclamation point, i get it now

what presteaux mean?
it is a cajun version of presto
like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, presto!

so, you give Ziggy a design/idea,
Presto! t-shirt/logo
